Hmm,..this is just a thing I've been thinking about.

A lot of times in topics when praising an Ericsson-phone, someone always say something bad about e.g. Nokia.

Is it necessary for some people to say bad things about other phone-manufacturers, every time they praise their own phone/brand ?

It just makes me wonder,..'cos I dont "need to" curse other manufacturers, every time I speak about my own phone.

I'm just curious

I know that a lot of people like to see themselves as pioneers/first movers. The ones that buy/know about new high-tech stuff and so on.
If people wanna be pioneers, they also need to be objective, and critical of course.
One just cant "lock-out" a certain company,. one needs to be very openminded about new things.
The brand I favour right now is Ericsson too, but that doesnt mean that I dislike other new phones by other brands,..eg. Nokia.

I think you're right, I don't know if people actually do it on purpose or just to be funny... Maybe they're just comparing they're to other phones and making a joke while they're at it, but I see where you're coming from....
Maybe some people should think before they write

arroyootje > Exactly what I mean. people tend to compare all the time.
Dont they feel that their device can "stand alone" ? does it really need to be compared to anything ?

I didnt buy the T-68, so that I could say : HAHA Nokia sucks !
I bought it because I liked it, not because I wanted a "non-Nokia" phone, and not because its "better than a Nokia".
I dont care about that,..I just simply like the phone,..and thats it

Dont know if it makes people feel better, if they say :"Nokia sucks", "my phone is better".
I dont think that way, and it doesnt make me feel better.

I agree,
I work in a cellular-store, i have to be objective, i can tell the customer whats better with one cellular than another, fx i can't sell a r380 or a 9210 to an old guy in a wheelchair (if he doesn't have a hi-tech-state-of-the-art fetish or something

I cant tell a customer that he needs to buy a t68 because i have it, i think it's best therefore he needs it to, (maybe the guy just needed a phone to call his wife and tell her he won't be home for dinner cause he's gone fishing)

if you read the history of what phones people on this forum have owned then you'll understand why they talk sh** about Nokia and get excited about having a t68...most aren't techies, they have phones for fashion not function.

Before the T68 became such a hit, it was the techies who owned it first.

I believe this even holds true for other ericsson users. Techies and people who value function over form.

And even the before the population growth here at esato, i believe most of the earlier members of the community were techies too.

If they want fashion with their phones they should get Nokias with interchangable covers.

Gowin > Believe You're right.

There're still a lot of "techies" in here. I was on another forum before, a british site, with my T-39, that was tech-stuff too, just like a good part of Esato is.

T-68 is a funny thing,..because it appeals to both tech-freaks and fashion-freaks.

It does seem that Ericsson attracts the techies in some way, maybe more than the other brands.

Does any of the other brands e.g. Nokia, Siemens, Motorola, have sites dedicated to special phones ?
I would believe that they exist,..there must be some "tech-freaks" with the other brands as well.

I guess the appeal of the T68 to the technies were the main features of the phone, the color display were really extra brownie points.

Those who get the phone because of the color screen are those who prefer form over function.

That's my view. Anyway, Im glad to see a phone that caters to both sides of the market.

Jan,

I think what you're saying makes sense, that people should choose a phone based on what they need/want and not simply because it's "better" than any other brand. Seems like common sense.

The issue with berating some other brand while praising Ericsson, I think, is really just heightened appreciation for the product. I mean, if you're coming from a bad product and you come across one that fits you and is really good, you just love your product more -- it just gives you a different pespective/background to base your opinion on. Of course, your individual needs don't leave the picture...complaining about a previous brand just makes your new gadget even better.

That's my take on your question...

When I buy a new phone it is never from the same manufacturer than the one I just had. I want to see what kind of solutions individual phones have. It would be boring to always stick with the same brand faithfully.

Hi guys!

It's maybe not just the members here on Esato that thinks Ericsson T68 is a hell of a good phone! One of the biggest mobilephone retailer in Sweden (GEAB) just revealed their stats for February, and here they are:

1. Nokia 3310
2. Ericsson T68
3. Trium Mars
4. Nokia 3330
5. Nokia 6310
6. Ericsson T39
7. Nokia 8310
8. Ericsson T29
9. Ericsson T65
10. Nokia 5210

As you may see, this list is containing a lot of cheap phones. T68 is #2 just beaten by Nokia 3310, but that is A LOT cheaper phone! It's very unusual that such an expensive phone as the T68 is so high on the list. You can read the Swedish article about this list at http://www.mobil.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=4768&sid=1

I honestly think that price-quality: 3310 (or 3330) is the BEST phone, it has cool functions, is EASY, has FAST T9, is cheap (117$ (122$ for 3330)) in Azerbaijan
and isn't THAT big or ugly...

I do think that when you buy a more expensive phone (like T68) you EXPECT more of it and when things like the snail-speed T9 is rubbish compared to ANY OTHER PHONE, then you start to compare. I think it's completely normal to compare, but I agree you don't have to start putting down EVERYTHING else...

Don't tell me that you guys don't compare a chick's details when looking at them
