Hello all, I just had to share this with you guys. You see, last summer I was in China and bought the t68 at a very good price. I loved it, it was the perfect cellphone -- the cellphone I always wanted. This was my very first cellphone too! I bought it because I liked the CommuniCam possibilites, but when I came home I heard that I had to upgrade the software to use the CommuniCam at this website I obviously contacted the closest authorised Sony Ericsson support center to upgrade it right away.
This is when hell broke loose. Appearantly my cellphone was not the T68 I imagened. It was a T68mc. The guy at the store really tried to upgrade it, but it didn't work. So he gave me an adress of where I could mail it to probably fix it. So I did that... I waited for two weeks and it came back, exactly the same with a note of "Can not upgrade because it's chinese". I called Ericsson and they said "Well, tough luck kid! It's your own fault for buying a chinese phone!" and I pointed out at the World Gaurrante but they responded with "...only applies where the phones are being sold."
I continued probably for two months pleading them to reconsider upgrading it or maybe even exchange it for a new phone. I still got a no, until I one of them said "Call me and we'll talk things out.". Finally hope was back! So after a discussion about it he gave me an adress of another firm that probably could upgrade it. So I sent it away... And I swear, those two weeks were nervewrecking! So then it came back and everything was good -- until I read the note "Can not upgrade because it is Asian".
Doh! I couldn't believe it. It happened AGAIN? Jeesus. That's the last time I trust Sony Ericsson support! They said that it would get upgraded, aaggggh!!! That was when I gave up and almost considered contacting some of my friends Phone-dealers who could upgrade it at will and I scourged the internet of the T68i software with the wish of upgrading it myself. But it never worked out, I just couldn't find the appropriate people or software on the internet.
I gave up.
A whole six months the cellphone had been in my possesion, and it felt like everytime I looked at it, it would stare back and say to me "Hey, I'm chinese! You can't do jack with me, because nobody can upgrade me!". I barely used it because of that... Until my travel over to the United States came which opened a completely new door of possibilites. I took it with me so me and my family could talk to each other when lost or if we split up (so at least the Tripleband feature payed off!)
I started searching for places where I could upgrade it, but nobody knew of any place at all (Phoenix, Arizona). So I gave it up really. I thought of that there was no hope for me to ever get use of the CommuniCam at all. And this is where things get funny... My iBook broke down and when visiting the AppleStore they had the D-Link Bluetooth USB adapters for sale (because Apple had just released iSync and everything). So when I came to pick up my fixed iBook I bought the Bluetooth adapter to spice things up, I thought "I have Bluetooth, why not use it now with newly fixed iBook to make my lifestyle digital?".
So later that night I was trying things out with the Bluetooth adapter and the iBook and sending pictures over and sending SMS's all over the place. Really cool and really interesting. And I said to myself "Forget the CommuniCam! This was cooler!". That's when distaster struck again! I by accident had selected many pictures on at the same time on the iBook and transfered them over to the T68, resulting in a MAJOR crash! The phone completely broke and I tried taking out the battery and restarting it several times to fix it. But it was dead...
Desperate once again I called Sony Ericsson support in America and said that my cellphone was broke and I wondered if there was any place I could take it to fix it. And I said "Mine is a T68MC, its bought in China." they said "Don't worry! We'll take it! Just send the receipt and we're fine!". Luckily I had the receipt with me so I sent a copy of it to them with the cellphone and started to roll my thumbs.
Now it's been over three months of a wait. During those months I called them every now and then to check the progress and they said every time "We're fixing it, don't worry. Call back in two weeks.". Now, maybe two-three weeks ago when I called them the last time they said "Oh, it sais here we're sending you the phone this Thursday." and I went "YES!!!!" and quickly asked "May I ask one last question please, is it upgraded to the latest version of T68 software?" and she said "Actually, your phone had such a serious crash that we had to replace it. We sent you a new T68i as a replacement." That was when I fell off my chair!
FINALLY!!
Hey, when I first bought my phone in China I got an electric shaver, handsfree, an extra battery and a little Keyboard for it. Not bad of a deal for 300 dollars, huh? All I had to do was to wait nine months to work things out
The first thing I am going to do right now is to go out and buy the CommuniCam and then I am going to call Sony Ericsson Support here in Sweden and laugh in their face for basically giving me the finger.
I thought this story was funny, and I just had to share it with you guys. Consider yourself a lucky T68 owner if you haven't experienced this
Thanks,
Niklas |
