T68i Stolen... Help please!!! |

Hey guys,
I need help. Last Feb.17 I sent out a defective(without the battery of course) phone to AT&T(No button did not work). A month ago, AT&T called, and I found out that they have not received it. I checked my USPS and my local post office, but found no information.
So, I called AT&T to declare that phone stolen. Now, they're charging me for well $150 bucks for nothing. AT&T is now doing an investigation about it. Well they're tracking down the IMEI number of that phone. So whoever stole it, he or she should better hide cuz' AT&T and I will surely file a case.
This is the IMEI number of the phone: 3504-0988-3259-95-3
...If anyone has this IMEI number, please turn it back to AT&T or contact me before you even face serious consequences.
Thanks!
Peace out! |

Hey not all service providers here in the US are screwed. I've had a very good experience with T-Mobile when I had to send in my phone for replacement.

aloha crazystud!
tough break, but you really shouldnt be giving out your IMEI number like that! unless the thief has fled the country its gonna be difficult to track your phone. |

Though break M8!
IMEI number can indeed be used to track phones... HOWEVER: i dunno any provider who actually uses it!
In my country, the POLICE do make use of the IMEI number by bombing it with messages and making the fone useless for the thief or thieves. I hear it's been working out so far...some fones have indeed been found and returned to the rightful owner. But do not expect any miracles: I very much doubt there is anything AT&T can do to actually trace your fone and get it back.
Also: does you mail carrier have some sort of tracking code/bar code on their packages? Can't THEY track it?
Good luck m8.

I recently talked to an ATT Rep and he said that they can track the phone. He actually did it while talking to me, and he said that the last time that the phone registered in their system was last January 4, 2003. I actually lost the phone February 17. It got lost in my mail box. The UPS didn't actually receive the package. It got lost before it even reaches the post office.
The Rep said they track can track the phone only if the network or the system makes a change. For instance, if that thief buys a new SIM card and activates the phone, then they can track it.
@axxxr
Yes it is just a damn phone, and I know it's cheap. Anyway, can you give me $199 to pay for the charge? ATT is charging me for the phone. If not, f**k OFF!!!

I'm not sure what the different networks relations are like in the US, but in the UK all the networks teamed together to share an IMEI database.
Now, if a handset is stolen, its barred across all four networks and plus with the new laws making changing IMEI's illegal, hopefully phone crime will drop once the f.idiots who steal phones realise they won't work.
