Hi all,

I don't know if this has been covered before - I looked but couldn't find anything on here, but I am having problems with the Dial-up Wizard and the P800 cable Modem.

I have put the P800 in to cable modem, disabled the Phone Connection Link, Enabled it on the Phone Monitor. Wonderful! The computer finds the P800 in Com Port 10! Ok, so I continue with the Dial-Up Wizard, choose an existing Dial-Up and proceed witht the Modem Page. This is where things go wrong!!

IT TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO SUITABLE MODEM and that Cable modem is not installed!! Why am I shouting, I have already installed the Sony Ericsson P802-P802 Serial Modem in Port 10, tried installing it again when the Sony Ericsson Dial-Up wizard offers to help me and still the darn wizard will not recognise that the Modem is install.

So, I have not been able to use my P800 to connect my HP Laptop to the internet using Vodafone GPRS. Has anyone else had this problem? Apart from this, I have had no other problems with this wonderful phone, I can collect my Email, Surf the net and even make phone calls, all on the phone itself.

I have downloaded the new SE PCSuiteForP800_rel_1.3.1_AE, but still nothing.

If anyone has any answers, please let me know.

Thanks,
G

Have you changed to modem in Control Panel>Conections>Cable? that could be your problem.

I have done that but still nothing. I don't understand why the Wizaeds isn't detecting the installed Modem.

Anything else to suggest?

Cheers,

I have it working on infrared perfectly in case that is a short term solution for you.

I haven't properly tried with bluetooth / usb, but from what I have seen I don't expect to be able to get it working.

You don't have to make the new dial-up connection throught the wizard.

First check and make sure you have installed the P800 serial modem......go to control panel>phone and modem options, select the modem tab, the serial modem must show up here.

If not select "Add" modem > in the Add Hardware wizard check the box "Don't detect my modem, I'll select from the list" then follow instructions...you will need your Ericsson disc to install the P800 serial modem.

You will now need to create a new dial up connection

Go to "Network & Dial UP connections"
Select "Create a new connection" > New connection wizard will launch....click next
Select "Connect to Internet" > click next
At the next screen select "Set up my connection manually" > click next
At the next screen select "Connect using a dial-up modem" > click next
At the next screen select " Modem - Sony Ericsson P800 Serial Modem (COMX=the com port you installed the modem) >click next
At the next screen Type name for the connection " Ericsson Cable Modem" > click next
At the next screen Type the phone number for your ISP (If using GPRS it will look like this *99***2#
At the next screen chose from the options > click next
At the next screen enter your "user Name and Password" if required by you service provider > click next
At the next screen tick "add shortcut to desktop" and click finish

Have you stopped the Phone monitor from looking at that port as the guy in the first post mentioned?

XP's great, I'm a big fan! 2000 is ok, I use it at uni, but would far rather have XP.
I use NT4 at work, the least said the better!

I'm an IT consultant, and I don't think theres a lot wrong with XP... yes, I like 2000 a lot too but so what - doesn't mean there's anything wrong with XP... that was my slightly OT point anyway.

And to cover the previous point - right click the Phone Connection Link icon on the taskbar and go to Properties, and make sure the relevant COM port is unticked, then experiment with Phone Monitor in Control Panel.
