Dear all

I spoke to SE in Zurich this morning and a very helpful tech support guy said "throw away the install CD!" Apparently the version 1.1 of PC Suite that ships with the P800 can cause...CORRUPT BACKUPS !!!!!

He could not have stressed any stronger that ALL users should have taken PC Suite version 1.3.1 off the SE website and installed it and backed-up their P800 from this version.

He just could not believe that it is still possible (my friend did it on Saturday) to go into a shop, buy a P800, and find version 1.1 of PC Suite on the Install CD.

This advice came after my major data loss (see my P800 Data loss post).

SE Switzerland are currently investigating my situation but I think all P800 users should be warned that in addition to any phone-related issues, the PC backups you could be doing may well be UNREADABLE during a restore attempt.

After speaking with him i did a quick search on my hard disk for the .ecs files that the backup creates. Whilst 11 backups were listed on my PC Suite 1.1 menu, only three .ecs files were present on my computers hard disk via the W2000 explorer window. I suggest anybody who is unsure checks AFTER a backup that an .ecs file was actually created.

I explained that somebody from SE europe should be posting this to boards like ESATO but until they do, here's my post.

I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to anybody else.

Best of luck

The new PC Suite 1.3.1 is available on Sony Ericsson and is better than 1.1.1 you should download it and try it.

Thanks amr - I did just that and it shows v 1.4.2 ?

Anyway SE called back. They can't retrieve my data, and I need to spend £30 to get my 3 week old £300 phone re-flashed to finally work!

They can St*ff that.

I am looking at a colour Nokia with bluetooth that works with old 6110 in-car stereo mute cradle until the raft of new smartphones is launched in May - any ideas?
