Let's start a list of software that is FREE (without ADs of any kind), and which you have found to be very useful.
Here's my incomplete list:
Ultimatezip - a winzip replacement
EDIT:
I found a better winzip replacement: FilZip
Float's Mobile Agent - my favorite software companion for my favorite phone.
Agnitum Outpost - a very good personal firewall.
Picture Slide Show - slide show/image viewer
Realpop-up - network messaging program
Trillian - integrated IM environment
