I do really wonder that too because lots of people are selling 64 and 128MB Magic Gate DUO's at EBay. But in my country neither Sony nor SE knows the answer for this subject |

The P800 does not support ATRAC3 but the Magic Gate Duo works fine on the P800 as normal memory. |

The MG Duo supports everything that the normal MS Duo does. Only difference is that the MG has an extra copyright protection for supported devices. If the device doesn't have this copyright protection thingy, it'll just be ignored and function just like a normal MS instead. |

I have a 64 MB MagicGate Duo in my P800. I have mp3's and videos on it and THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE from the ordinary MS Duo that came with the phone.
The rumours that the MagicGate doesn't work with the P800 usually comes from people that hasn't tried but "think so". |

That's really odd... I emailed SE technical help, and they even said that the MagicGate DUO will not work in P800. But I have been hearing that it does. Somehow I get the feeling that either they do not know what they are talking about, or that they just don't want the MG used with P800...

Feel free to email me at any time about this!
MG(magic Gate) MS(memory stick) Duo- protection, white in colour
MS Duo - Non protection, purple in colour
With p800 you can use both! Why:
MG was design because sony makes mills on music so the designed this to stop people copying there music, net mini disc, netwalkmans made buy sony only allow music to be copied with MG. So at the end of a day it is a they are both are just MS, However you put a mp3 on a MG stick and try and play it in the netwalk man it wont work, because sony products cant play MP3!!!!!!!!!(take note Sony product!) so the have there own MP3 format atrac3.
So the good and bad news is:
Bad news if you are like me and hae a net mini disc and have 3gig of music in atrac3 format(sony format) and no mp3 you cant play this music in the p800!(this is not bad new thou)
Good new! THe p800 is not really a true sony product, it was half developed with ericsson and did not have time to add there protection(MG) into the phone!!!!!!!!!!! Which is F N Great!!!! so you can play MP3 and not atrac3 cause in reality they suck!
So because the phone does not support Magic gate software protection the phone cant tell the difference between the two sticks!!! However the Magic Gate sticks do cost more then the normal sticks and the only reason why you can get Magic Gate stick in Duo is because sony has two products that uses these sticks! and no product that uses the Normal stick expect the P800 so you can buy both of them and use them.
I hope this makes sense, email me if you get lost a little adam@zakeen.com
But in sense when sony says the p800 doesnt support magic gate sticks, well they are half true!
The p800 supports the magic gate stick but not the software!!

Can you use a regular big memory stick on the p800? Does it work even if it sticks out a bit? |

I personally doubt it!
The DUO os much thinner and I do not see any way you would be able to jam a regular size stick in there.
Look at it this way, the adapter you get with the DUO is the size of a regular memory stick and teh DUO fits into it...
