I phoned up orange the other day to ask about the details of getting a transfer to another network, and how long it would take to get my pac code. They told me i would need to give them 30 days notice in order to get it. Does anyone know if this is correct, as all the other information I've read about this has said it only takes a week.

On a related issue, I'm trying to get myself a P800 for a cheap as possible. Being on orange, are my options to either upgrade (which costs £300 at the moment) or to change networks or to start a new orange contract (thereby lose my old number)? This seems stupid to me as Orange are pretty much leaving me with no option to change networks....

Hmmm strange. They should issue the PAC pretty much straight away. Vodafone certainly did - although they had to mail it out to me (sometimes you can get ti over the phone I think) but I had it 3 days later. I think it must depend on who you speak to. I suggest using the 'Orange rule of 3' again and see what different answers you get!

Are your 12 months of contract up? Most providers won't issue a PAC until this is the case. Also if you have only just PAC'd onto a network then you usually have to wait 30 days before you can PAC out again. (Significant if you have PAC'd to a £10 virgin SIM and then back again to get around upgrade charges for example).

You can also only ever have one PAC active for your phone number - they always expire after 30 days.

Once you have given your PAC to the new network it will usually take a minimum of 7 days until the transfer occurs (the tranfer itself should only take an hour or so).
