i thought i would start a new post so people can view their opinions about 3g (3). i am thinking about signing up and getting the NEC e808, but i am so undecisive as these handsets are massive and weigh loads. please feel free to view your opinions.

thanks for your time

long term its the future of mobile phones pdas etc.
the opitions are quiet limitless with the service.
short term it will be expensive and a bit dissappointing.
like color mobiles expensive when they first came out bit dissappointing in terms of things available.but now things are starting to look up with more and more things been aimed at them and the price is coming down.
3g will be goo but it will need the few who can afford it to go out and get it so that prices start to come down and then the mass market will start to come into play

At the moment with only one network actually having an operational 3G network I dont think its worth getting it. Looking on the 3 website, the handsets cost a minimum of £400 and the line rental is £60 a month for the cheapest tariff. I'm sorry but thats just far too expensive. Especially since not everywhere will have coverage from the 3 network and how many other people do you know that will have another 3 phone?? Its hardly worth it is it.
I'd wait another year, give the other networks a chance to get running, handsets to go down in price, line rental to go down and other people to get 3g phones then i'll give it a go.
Dont get me wrong, 3g will totally rule when fully integrated like gsm is and i cant wait for that to happen but until then it aint got a chance.
Until then I think its a better choice to spend your money on something like the p800.

Feel free to agree/disagree!

I have a question. I live in Hungary and we do not have 3G. Of course we gonna have, but why 3G is so importan? Because of the higher speed? I cant find any good 3G phone. For example what is different between the new SE 3G phone and the T610 or T68i? Speed? Colorful display? Integrated camera? Or the 15 sec motion picture recording ability?

Like u say 3G allows for greater speeds, namely the stream of video, therefore you could have videocalls, or stream data straight from the web, etc....
At this point you re right...some of the phones that are 3G capable are quite...boring?not sure if that's the word i should use...anyways, the Z1010 looks pretty damn good to me.Also i think it's only a matter of time before manufacturers turn their production of phones solely towards 3G capable phones. One thing you have to know...a lot people still can't even grasp 2.5G...
If you check the other thread there's a phone only sold in Japan being shown and it looks damn good to me. As we all know the land of the rising sun gets stuff a lot earlier than anyone else...*sigh*

cheers for your comments guys. much appreciated. i have totally decided not to become a 3 customer, the main reason being no-one i know will have a 3g phone so i wont actually be able to make use of the main feature! im gonna upgrade to p800 when my contract runs out in a month anyway (i think this is gonna be one of the most advanced phones for a long while) and plus im very happy with the service that Orange provides me
