Hi,
Been happy with my p800, but just got this serious issue. About 50% of the time my camera doesn't work, it just comes up with a white screen that says sony ericsson on it. Is this a firmware glitch?
Also, when i call someone, i dial the number and then it doesn't ring. It just stays silent, and then all of a sudden the person will answer. the whole time that the phone should be ringing, it is silent. Note, this is when i am making a call, NOT recieving a call! This is a bit offputting because i never know if it's connected or not. I just have to wait until the person answers or it goes to voicemail! Has anyone else had this problem?
Cheers.
Note, it's still in the first 14 days from orange, so i could just send it back, do you think this is the best idea? | |

others have experienced this problem.
It looks like a hardware problem that causes the software not to be able to communicate with the camera.
In addition, if there are problems with the camera software (i.e., it crashed), running the camera software subsequently, shows the white logo instead of the video. |

daz m8 when u making a call i think at first u hear the tone signal and when u move the wheel to put the volume of the handset up or down then the speaker in the headset gets numb and u cant hear the tone of the ringing til the moment the person on the other side answers .... THIS is exatcly ure problem am i right
its not related to ure phone its related to ure sim card m8 this will not happen with all the numbers u dial try the procedure i wrote and ull see what i mean this also happens to me one mine sim card but not on my dads moms and other sim cards
for the camera part it also crashes for me did so for 4 to 5 times this is probobly software related and it will be fixed in the next firmware ...
conclusion : ure phone is ok !

Lazarini; at first I thought you were right i was being really dumb, so i tried it. That is most certainly not th eproblem with the earpiece. I'l try to explain more clearly. I dial a number, press call, and it begins to connect. Then it should start ringing. But, it doesn't ring, it just stays silent. I turn the jogdial all the way up so the volume indicates it is maxed out. So there is no ringing... then all of a sudden the person i am calling will pick up and i can hear them just fine. Just the ringing part that dissapears. It's not a MASSIVE issue, but big enough for me to send it back. I want to be able to know when it's ringing, and when it's not even connecting!
cheers. |

Daz mate - do you have a BT headset paired up to your P800 and turned on somewhere nearby?
I found this on the night i first had my P800 - wasn't really thinking, had paired up and used my Jabra BT200 fine earlier in the day, but then left it lying on my desk when i was making calls at night - every time i called, i wouldn't hear the ringing on the phone, just suddenly i'd hear the person i was calling say 'hello, hello?!' and i'd have my conversation. Realised afterwards that, somehow my BT headset, sitting the other side of my room, was stealing the first few seconds of the call, despite me not telling it to, but then relinquishing control after a few seconds back to the handset - turned off the headset, i could hear the rings and the person answer on my handset from then on!
Don't know if that's any help, but symptoms sound similar to my experiance! |

@miss_uk
I reckon they'll probably refer you to Siemens or, get this(!), Carphone Warehouse, who do manufacturer repairs.
If I were you, I would quote the Sale Of Goods Act, which states that if an item is not fit for the purpose for which it was bought, within a 'reasonable' period of time, the consumer is entitled to a replacement or a full refund.

I have the exact same problem.
Looks like it is common and not a fault of my unit
Under the Phone Preferences, for Bluetooth settings, you can choose Headset or Phone.
When you pair with a BT headset, it defaults to Headset.
This seems to be where the problem happens.
With my P800, my headset happens to be a HCB-30 (car installed speaker phone).
When I move out of the car, for some reason, the call still gets transferred to a NON-EXISTENT headset, and so there is no ringtone.
But I only get the call back on the phone when the person I am calling picks up.
On a friend's phone, he said he even loses 10 secs of talk time!!
Switching the Phone settings Bluetooth/Default to Phone solves the problem... but it also means that my car speaker phone doesn't automatically pick up when I get calls in the car
*sigh*
With my old T68i, it would first connect using the phone, then attempt to transfer the call to a BT headset, but when none is found, it continues the rings on the phone.
I actually thought the P800 was going to be less buggy since it used a more established firmware. Looks like the T610 may be in the cards for me..
I guess if you never have a BT headset, or ALWAYS use yr BT headset, you will never encounter this problem..
