Can someone give me any info on this phone?

I've been given one from a friend, but it looks as tho it is useless in the UK. Is this the truth, or can it be modified for UK useage?
I notice that there is a lack of sim card entry (at least from what I can see).

Any info about this phone would be great, espcially it's uses outside of Japan.

The handset is sadly totally useless outside Japan.
It is not GSM compatible, nor is it compatible with CDMA for Korea and US. Japanese 2G phones do not use SIM cards. Only W-CDMA phones (FOMA and Vodafone Global Standard) use USIM card.
It is not possible to modify the handset to cater for GSM, so not worth even trying.

Conversely, any GSM phones will be absolutely useless as soon as it reaches the land of rising Sun. Get W-CDMA phone in Europe (e.g. on Three) then you can roam in Japan (in the near future).
