Can anybody please tell me if SonyEricsson Z1010 3G phone will also support tri-band GSM, specifically, 1900 MHz GSM for the USA? Should I bother waiting for this phone?? Somebody said it was only dual band....I hope it's tri-band...Sony Ericsson Site doesn't say much except that it will be UMTS/GSM phone....Thanks. |

It is because it is mainly design for 3g(wcdma) which will be avilable all over the world.it also its pimary network for roaming. Gsm1900is only used in the us and i am sure that it will be one of the first to have wcdma.

yes, it will be triband and dual mode. HOWEVER, the third band is for WCDMA which is currently on 2100 mHz in Japan
GSM 900/1800
WCDMA 2100

Well triband in the traditional sense means that it uses three GSM bands (usually 800/1800/1900MHz). The Z1010 does not. The fact that it uses UMTS as well is why it is described as dual-mode. Therefore it is dual (GSM) band and dual mode but not tri-band. If you start mixing up definitions then phone specs will start to become very unclear.
There are tri-band, dual mode handsets (like the motorola A830) which do use 800/1800/1900MHz and UMTS so lets not confuse the matter by trying to describe phones like the Z1010 as tri-band - it will clearly be misleading. |
