How does this speakerphone works?
When I received a call and I open the flip, the caller can hear me but I can't hear them. What am I doing wrong? |

When you open the flip the phone should automatically go to speakerphone mode but for some reason it doesn't do it all the time. Tap the speaker button at the bottom of the screen and make sure the speakerphone option is checked. Sometimes I have to uncheck and then re-check it to get it to work. |

Both of you guys are wrong.
Speakerphone mode is not automatically turned on when you open the flip. You have to instruct the phone to turn it on automatically.
The way you do it, is to tell the person on the other end to hold on (you only have to do this procedure once and then it works). Then, you open the flip and turn up/down the volume and you'll see a few settings on the bottom of the screen. One of them is speakerphone.
Once you have that turned on, everything will work right.
From now on, when you open the flip, it will automatically use the same settings you set up previously -i.e., it will switch to speakerphone mode, in this case. I believe you can use the same technique to cause the phone to mute when you open the flip, etc. |

during the call, why dont just press the function button followed by 7. lot easier. u dont have to bring the flip down then.

you could press 7 but that 7 is not fixed. depending on whether there's anything in the clipboard or not, that number could change. it's a minor issue but for me i sometimes press it without looking and end up doing the wrong thing. |

Actually, mine doesn't seem to keep the speakerphone setting. I have to tick speakerphone every time I want to use it.
I do have the latest firmware.

Do you guys actually find the speakerphone useful?
The caller hears an echo of themselves about hlaf a second after they speak. I've heard it, my friend has a P800 and it's awful.
Sometimes, however, it doesn't echo. Any recommendations as to how to stop the echoing.
I've tried lowering the volume but sometimes that doesn't work. The only time I've had it work properly for a good deal of time was when it was sat on the cradle and I presume that was because the mic is closer to the front of the phone and was shielded from the speaker at the back by the cradle - I don't know |

@ oferlaor, no, you are wrong. The P800 user's guide states on p.49, under: Hints and smart functions/speakerphone:
"If you open the flip during a call, the speaker phone function is activated and the volume will increase."
Read the user's guide. |

@bjambean - yup, my speakerphone is awful, whenever i try it my caller always hears the echos, so i end up closing the flip and pulling out my Jabra BT instead, if i don't want to hold the phone. Thought everyone's was like this, nothing particularly wrong with mine though? Really irritating too, since the speakerphone on my small phone (nk7210) is absolutely perfect - the same people don't even know they are on speakerphone when i use it, i can lie in bed without having to have my BT headset in my ear and leave my phone on my table and hold a perfect conversation - not so with the P800 speaker though

omar,
As I said, it's programmable. If you turn off the checkbox while the flip is open, it will no longer go into speakerphone mode when you open the flip and remains in regular mic mode. |

@ oferlaor, the point is that the phone was designed to go into speaker mode automatically once the flip is opened, which is the point I made and you said I was wrong about. What to do when and if it doesn't is another matter. Cool_One's complaint was that when he opened the flip the speakerphone wasn't activated automatically like it should. I suppose it's one of the quirks/bugs of the P800.
Regards

My friends and I have never had any problems with the speakerphone of our P800s. I use mine all the time in the car, if I forget my HBH-30, or when it's charging in the cradle beside my PC. The other party can't usually tell I'm on the speakerphone unless it's really noisy, or other people in the room talk to them as well.

I've used speaker phone on a few occassions and it works fairly well.. Opening the flip turns on speakerphone every time.
Someone said something about an echo.. In my experience this has happened on every phone I've had(r320s , t65 , 3510 , t68i , s55 and my p800).
And it seems to be random when it happens and has nothing to do with speaker phone directly as the only phones with speakephone is s55 and p800... |
