It is with much regret i have to tell you guys that my P800 is going back. I don't see any point in having a phone that i look at with contempt most of the time.

I'd been waiting for this phone for almost 7 months, and when it finally arrived i was delighted. I knew before it arrived about the lack of T9 and prepared myself for this but over the past 2 weeks its become a total bloody pain.

The handwriting recognition is pant.. its years behin the Compaq Ipaq "whole word" recognition. Multitap is painful.

The lack of sms receipts and delivery reports is inexcusable

The lack of profiles is also a disgrace. I keep my phone on silent most of the time to avoid anoyying people, yet when i dock it in car crade, all that happens is the word "car" pops up on the screen for a few seconds. it STAYS on silent! - My T68i switch to a totally different profile when docked in a car, the text got bigger, the light stayed on, the volume was full up, the increasing ring turned off etc etc.. this is a waste of plastic

My camera has crashed twice in 2 weeks..... the sync software will not work, will not backup, will not even see the phone half the time.

Oh and just to be REALLY annoying, silent doesn't mean silent... it means "silent unless you have a voice tag stored wherupon it will announce the name of an incoming call at full volume, just when you want it least like in a meeting"....

All in all its a good phone with just too many wasted opportunities. I think i'll wait for the T610 instead...

Well i think that u are being way to harsh to the P800, give it some time, the phone will only get better in time. That is the idea of using this sort of OS, the applications will grow and grow, and the problems that u have found with this phone will start to disappear. Do not return it just yet....you may regret it in the near future.

thats a shame u feel like that. i think the handwriting recognition is good and most of the minor problems u talk about will surely get sorted soon. personally i love this phone but thats just my opinion

Hear a lot of what your saying but totally disagree with one point.
As a previous owner of ipaq 3870 & 3970 with its various input methods, I always ended up using the mini keyboard because I could not get the hang of screen writting & the writting on the screen lagged behind my own speed.

With the P800 I was hitting 95% correct in the first hour of use & am now about 99% correct. I actually find the writting recognition excellent!

Yes....I would agree on certain points but that wan't make me take back my P800!! Yes....the P800 is not the same as any other phone....it's more that a phone and we need to accept this.

The lack of some fetures we are used to might not ever be available on this type of device and are replaced as an example with the virtual keyboard and screen writing. Over time some of the more basic missing fetures will be added and other new released SE models will be based on the P800 technoligy.

As an ex iPAQ owner I find the screen writing recognition excellent on the P800 and as Psikey pointed out I also find it way ahead of the iPAQ

The phone does have some faults, Bluetooth does not work sometimes, the camera quality is poor in low light, the battery only lasts 3 days at the most, and it can be slow when moving through different applications.

However, what other phone has such a graet user interface, such good screen, expandable memory that does not cost a fortune. Not to mention the downloadable applications. The hand writing recognition if brilliant, I can out write T9 speed for speed on this phone.

As has been pointed out, software upgrades will fix all the problems, most of them in the next release, and with so many programmers out there, someone has to write a profile program sooner or later.

I would never get rid of this phone, it is one of the most advanced phones ever, with a brilliant future of free software, SE support, and Esato to make the world a better place (but my fiance still likes the sketch program- reducing my P800 from a technological marvel to the role of Etcha-Sketch!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Are you nuts?

I mean..
You can be on irc on your phone, you can use icq , play doom , download any program you need , take pictures , play videos, draw your own pictures, download email properly, play gameboy games , sega games , store as many smses as you'll ever need, as many numbers as you'll ever need , listen to mp3s and has a touch screen.
In other words.. There is not ONE phone that can do all of this.

And you complain about petty things like sms delivery reports and the camera crashing once a week!?!

You actually feel that those few things are worth all of the things I listed above?
If so?? WHY THE HELL DID YOU BUY THE PHONE?

GordyUK, I undestand your position, after building up all this expectation, people with specific needs are bound to be disapointed, however the general public will be very pleased.

Killa007, I feel your pain, mine did the same with the apple messagepads 110 and 2000 back then...

I donīt get it...
Are all SE fans brainwashed or something? How the hell can you accept buying Beta, no Alpha stuff and patiently await one bloody update after another just to get the basic features working??
Nokias problem seems to be quality control, but at least in the Nokia s i have owned the bloody basics worked!
I think the whole industry is going downhill, with the pressure of pumping out new models all the time quality suffers.
My GH868 worked flawlessly for two years, no updates repairs or nothing, as did my 6210. I doubt that any current phone will do that..
My S55 is working good so far anyway though the adress book have crashed once, so no, it isnīt perfect either.
I think that the only way to get decent working stuff is by not accepting or putting up with crap! Just return the faulty unit and refuse to "just wait for the next crappy update that cures three bugs and adds four new ones"
*Iīm pissed, did you notice?*

I am totally understand u, I had this phone for more than a month and i couldn't get used it, Both virtual and plastic keypads are so bad that writing SMS can be a real pain, This device is very poor phone almost immposible to use it as a phone, i already wrote that those add-on keypad are worthless, when i left them at home i couldn't do even a simple job like a call or writing a SMS, as a PDA this device is USELESS, maybe it has a touch screen but it doesn't make it PDA, the OS is nice, but it's defenetly not PPC2002, most of the applications are rubish.
As soon as i realized it i sold it for the firts person i found, now i am using my IPAQ 5450 + T68I or i just take my 7650 without the IPAQ.
I am still looking forward to anothere series 60 sevices (without touch scrren) maybe the siemens SX1 will be the right answer.
And for all the SE admires, don't take it personal i still love SE (T68I is a great devices) i just think that P800 is much less than people think about it, it isn't a phone and isn't a PDA, so what the hell is it?

The iPAQ 3800 series was very unstable & using bluetooth used to lock-up the machine until a new firmware upgrade came out. As users of high tech gadgets wanting the latest gear there will always be a level of Alpha/Beta type testing.

Considering the sophistication of the P800 with a new OS I think it is very stable (lot more so than the iPAQ 3870 & 3970 I recently sold).

Only things I really miss with my iPAQ is my 256MB SD memory & the brilliant 65K screen on the iPAQ3970.

Why not drive around in a vw beetle?
Now that's a car with few flaws...
And do you know why nothing goes wrong on this car?
Because there's nothing that can go wrong!
It doesn't even have inside heaters. Basically you'll freeze on your way to work in a rather uncomfortable way. But hey!
It works!

I can't stand it when people say that old phones are best. They aren't!
They suck. They have one virtue.. simplicity. And with simplicity comes unusability. Except for those people who sees there phone as something to "call and write sms".
I don't know what you guys are doing buying p800.
Go back to those old nokia 5110s and start using dos instead of windows again.
