it is only natural that viruses would eventually be made for mobile phones. As they get more advanced and more compatible with PC standards, more and more will be released. At least we dont have to worry!

but this has got me thinking, does any one remember those flashing text messages that were all the craze once. THey could only work on nokia phones. It was a little bit of code sent at the start of the message to make it flash, surely if this is possible it would be possible to write some code that would delete phone book entries...?!?

I dont think its possible to program a Virus for a phone, how should it work? And how should you get in the phone.
Oki lets say by SMS, but the only thing you send with SMS is txt. You can attach pics in it, or sounds, but how should you get a virus attached?
I dont think we will se any viruses for phone s in a long time, maybe when they starts to appear with OS (OperatingSystem) like Windows and so on..
kicks ass with NO virus

im not saying it is likely to happen in the next couple of years, but it is possible.

if i sent begin:emelody
or what ever i send if i wanted to send someone my ringtone, they will recieve the message in the form of a ringtone. What if there was a security hole in this, in which it was possible to create and mass produce viruses.
it would be easy to spread, just attach a funny joke onto the message, and people are bound to forward it on to others. Kind of like a chain letter.

the only problem is, if there was a security hole, we would only find out after it had been exploited, when people had suffered the consequences of the virus

think the best thing to do is to turn your phone off, never accept calls and never accept any SMS!

I DO believe that virus will or already ARE being made. I heard something about a virus though sms, it's somewhere on the site. Imagine having to buy an Antivirus for your gsm...

I think you'll just have to have a software update to 'cure' your phone though...

Hope it's not soon

Sorry MrNoodles but virus for phones EXIST
We had a security alert from Proximus ( network ) that a virus exist and it comes by SMS their is an text inside that say that you have to reply to their message ( the name of the sender is Proximus, but it's NOT proximus ) and when you reply to the message the virus make a " copy " of your sim ( PIN - PIN 2 - PUK - everything ) so the hackers or whatever have a "clone" of your SIM and they can call with your credits

It's a TRUE story

Strange we never heard of it here in Sweden, and we are among the leaders in Telecom Developement.
Does the cloned SIM have the same number then? What if you are using a phone card?
What if I call at the same time then? Collision?
No I really dont believe that SMS virus is available!!
