Just wondering how many people are having problems connecting to the P800 through the bluetooth serial port, and which software they are using?
Mine use to work after i reset the computer, but now i can't get it to work at all. My Bluetooth software version is CXC12529 R2C, and phone version is R1D CXC162002. |

No, it has been an adventure. Go to the Technical forum here @ esato and have a look at some of the recent threads... they have pointers to the 1.3.2.7 version for popular USB BT dongles.
I installed them, and though the software isn't perfect (still), it does work. I can sync and surf over Bluetooth.
Still don't know how to make the PC automatically start the Bluetooth serial connection when the P800 comes into range. Anyone have some tips for this?
cheers

No you're far from being alone, my first P800 had faulty BT, wasn't able to send. This one I have now is not too good at it either, serialport connection doesn't work. Sometimes it has problems to send over BT.
And why haven't SE implemented FTP on it??? 7650 had that, and it made it very easy to send objects to it, just rightclick and send to BT 7650.
And people say that Nokia are worthless when it comes to BT???
Hope the new SW will fix the BT. |

I think the bluetooth in the current firmware for the P800 is just bugged....it should work the same as the T68i's did in the end which was perfection.
The P800 lacks many services (like file transfer) and the serial port is just a nightmare to get working (although possible)
I hope they realise this and fix it promptly.

Hi,
I dont seem to have any problems using bluetooth.
I use a Tecom dongle on my PC at home and my Toshiba Laptop has built in bluetooth.
On the desktop/laptop I have to select the correct port for the bluetooth serial socket in the P800 Sync software settings.
Then I switch on bluetooth on the phone and then connect to the serial port in the bluetooth software on the PC. Then I do a search from the PC/laptop.
Its best to take off any passkeys etc so that you know its working beforehand and then set your passkey authentication up.
I then add the PC/laptop to the list on my P800 bluetooth settings.
Voila, thats all.
Z.

There does seem to be file transfer on the phone, because Send To works sometimes, but not reliably. It would be much better if the phone could initiate the connection or it happened automatically, though. |

The file transfer that does work via send to is using obex push protocol...it does work, so does the sync software, what i'm saying is that the P800 just does not work anywhere near as slick as the T68i did on bluetooth.....it is purely firmware to fix the problem and i am confident they will fix it....i sent Sony Ericsson Data Support a series of emails (which they did respond to) about this but i didn't get a definitive answer.
Here's hoping they sort it out soon.

Greetz!
After a couple of hours with the R1D, couldn't manage to send data to a t68i
I can send stuff from a t69i to the P800, but can't do it the other way around not even after pairing them or putting them discoverable...!
This is starting to piss me off! And I don't even wanna think about if I try pairing the P800 with a PC!

Got my new works IBM Thinkpad laptop on Thursday running XP pro Intel P4 processsor @ 1.8 GHz with 512 MB Ram nice bit of kit. First thing I loaded was the P800 PC suite. Had to sort out the connection but got the sync working via USB. Next item loaded was Bluetooth flaky but manged to get connection and can sync Outlook over bluetooth. Get the usual connecting to "COM port 0" and connection errror but it connects to COM port 5. Not sure yet if the connection will be stable but seems to work at the mo. Still trying to figure out transfering files between the laptop and P800. Still trying to get to grips with XP...............so much differant to win 2000!!!!
Will post back if I get the file transfer sorted
Any one using bluetooth make sure you have all the bluetooth port checked it seems to connect more reliable.....but then it could just be ME!!

There will be a major new SW release for P800 during April, which among other things fixes plenty of BT related problems. |

NEW VERSION OF THE P800 INTERFACE COMPLETED
2003-02-28
The graphical interface for Sony Ericsson's communicator P800 is called UIQ. Now a new version of it has been released, which of course increases the speculations that a new P800 may also be on the way out.
Above all it is the appearance and the sound that have been improved in the new version. Functions for games and music should also have become better in the new version. The possibilities to make the phone more personalized by "themes" in form of color
schemes, background pictures etc. has also been improved.

SOON THERE WILL BE BETTER SOFTWARE FOR P800
2003-03-03
At the beginning of April it will be possible to
upgrade the software in P800. The upgrade will among other things improve the quality of pictures taken with the built in camera.
Another thing improved in the new software is the bluetooth. Previously in some cases it has been problematic to connect bluetooth accessories.
UIQ is the name of the software functioning together with the operating system SymbianOS. Recently a new UIQ version was released and it is that new version P800 users will be able to put in their phones. Sony Ericsson now starts testings of the new version of UIQ. Our sources claims the new software will
be released at beginning of April to the users.
It is also said that those having a P800 will possibly be
able to upgrade their phones by themself by dowloading an upgrade file from internet. |
