You know what it's like, you sometimes get calls late at night. Anyway I put the P800 in silent mode.
But the Alarm didn't work this morning to wake me up !!!!
Anyone else having the same problem ? |

why don't you just put the alarm on and leave it on loud or whatever, then just switch off the phone!! it should wake u up in the morning, and your mysterious night-time callers will not have to wait a few minutes for the phone to ring out before going to answerphone???

The general answer to this problem is to put the phone into flight mode and turn silent off

With either method, I won't know if anyone has tried to call unless they leave a message. |

if they don't leave a message then it probably wasn't important!
also note that the alarm won't function if the alarm is off hence the flight mode solution

I think this is a bug, as silent mode really is silent in all ways.
No alarms
No speaker phone
Also noticed (and i'm comparing to T68 here), if I insert a headset I would expect the phone to ring, but again it's silent here as well. |

Maybe i'm being a bit pedantic here, but "silent" means no noise doesn't it ?
An alarm is not silent.
Suppose it depends on the interpretation of silent. If I was in a meeting, I would not want the alarm to sound if the phone is in "silent" mode.
Maybe needs a bit of clarification from SE ? |

No he can't... The alarm dosn't work if the phone is switched off.
So maybe you are not the right person to call other people dumb!!! |

Agreed that alarms are a problem with the P800.
General user expectations:
Silent mode -> Silent (vibrating) alarm.
Phone off, alarm set -> Alarm wakes phone, then wakes you.
Sony screwed up that second one. I suppose that the first is still workable, assuming that you sleep with the phone stuffed into your underwear.
Actually, that wouldn't be all that bad of a way to wake up...

Absolutely a problem. I have my P800 in silent mode most of the time and you can't even make the alarm vibrate the phone. It just displays a message on screen offereing "done", "snooze" or "silence" !!!
I hope they sort that one out pronto!

I remember that with the t68i you used to be able to play a ring tone and make the phone vibrate at the same time (dancing t68). Can the p800 play a sound file with the vibrate option enabled within the file ?
