I am just curious as to how the phone transmit the bluetooth signal - does it do it thru the normal phone aerial?

If that is the case, then if I fitted an external aerial to the car, the bluetooth headset will still work outside of the car while the phone is in the car.

You can get bluetooth-carkits, where voice is transmitted through speakers.

Its radio waves/transmission, within 10 metres with current devices.
