I have bought an r380.
Haven't got it in my hands yet though.
And I'm interrested in hearing about peoples opinions about.
Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings. I bought it as a party phone and a phone for use in hazardous areas(No. I didn't buy it for it's ruggedness but because the loss won't be so big if i thrash it)

The p800 is my baby these days and the r380 will be at home except when needed.

But. To the questions.

1) How many sms can it store?

2) Is it slow like the r320 or faster?

3) Does the handwriting recognition work in practice or must I use the onscreen keyboard?

4) Can I use the p800 cradle to connect it to my pc?

5) Can the s version be upgraded to the e version through a firmware update?

6) Can I send sms in flip closed mode.. If not can I at least read sms?

They share memory with email, phonebook, settings, notes etc...

2) Is it slow like the r320 or faster?
You can't really compare them since R320 uses Ericssons firmware and R380 uses Symbian OS. But yes, it's faster, unless you use up all the phone memory, then it will be slow as hell

3) Does the handwriting recognition work in practice or must I use the onscreen keyboard?
Yes it works just fine.

4) Can I use the p800 cradle to connect it to my pc?
Maybe... maybe not but it should work...

5) Can the s version be upgraded to the e version through a firmware update?
Yes it can. This will however result in that you will have less memory free since the e version takes up a bit more memory.

6) Can I send sms in flip closed mode.. If not can I at least read sms?
You can read, but not send sms.

There is some limit though, at least on mine. When I have 200 SMS in my "outbox", it just won't send any until I delete some of them. And deleting SMS's is incredibly slow for some reason. I'm not sure if the SMS "inbox" has a similar limitation, or if this is dependent on the firmware version, but that is how it works for me...
