Nokia Mobile Phone president said this in its press conference:

we've seen our own business consistently over the past years,
increase in market share, increase in size
the only other consistent performent in our peer group of competition we can see is
from sony ericsson
but that has been growing to other direction

What do you all think?

One thing about Finns, they let you know the truth no matter how hard it is.
I know, I'm a Finn myself.

Good one, i have to admit that was a very witty remark... it seems Nokia are not too concerned about the change the 4th Quarter produced for SE! I do feel that things are starting to work now for SE, so Q2 should be interesting. Lets see if we get any witty remarks then..

i think nokia doesnt mind competing against ericsson. they were both the pioneers in this field and i am sure they have tons of good memories. the president sounds cool, i like people in high positions who arent afraid of mentioning there competitors.

I think the market share of SE can only grow from now on. Nokia is in a position where they have to defend their share, SE can attack. Not so comfortable, but much more exciting and rewarding if it works - which I trust it will.

By the way, here in Belgium SE is the second after Nokia. They have a market share of about 10,8%. Which proves that Belgians are weird people with good taste and a deliciously twisted mind.

The R600 did/does very, very well here and the T200 is going the same way. Apparently a lot of trendy ladies prefer these above some Nokia thing - at least tha's what I see in our 'streets'. It is a product that fits well into a certain typical Belgian niche - being different but not extravagant. Also a media campaign by the biggest operator pushing the T300 and T68 as ideal MMS phones did a lot of good.

Unfortunately every day *new* 3310's are sold. Every day!!

Let's buy a lot of SE's.

Look, this may be overly-cynical but has anyone seen/heard Mr Nokia say this. Strikes me as a bit odd I reckon your average Scandinavian has a better grasp of English than some of us English, so I imagine Mr Nokia would probably have phrased it a little more eloquently?

Froddan the Finn, what do you think? As the resident Finn, you be the judge...

If he did say it, I say Froddan for Nokia presidency cos he speaks better English!

@ Dave

Have you heard Mika Häkkinen in English? I'd say that pretty much talks for itself...
No, but seriously, Finland has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish. And the Finnish speaking Finns are quite bad at foreign languages, so yea, I reckon the chief of Nokia could've said that.

Oh, btw, I'm a Swedish speaking Finn

From the remarks of Nokia, the more reason that SE should be aggresive in its product line and marketing strategy and i think we are seeing these in their upcoming models(t310,t610).Again,lets giv SE more time.Im sure from 5th place, theyl be back into 3rd place.Lets support SE.

power to the underdog...in this case its but again (as remarked earlier) nokia has to defend whilst can only look upwards!!!

i think the statement is true but perhaps its said outta growing fear....the man can only say that if his strategic think tank dept views as a credible threat.......correct me if i'm wrong.....

Go Go!!!

Nokia, to tell u d truth, really does have a great and effective marketing strategy. They produce mobile phones more than mangoes grow on trees every year. They show off features that r unusual in a mobile phone. For every feature they create, they also create a new phone which is obviously a marketing strategy. They will not make a packaged deal phone. They will save the rest for the next phone. Thats y quality is sometimes sacrificed. I think Nokia will still dominate the mobile industry for years to come unless another mobile company thinks of a better marketing strategy. And I guess SE has a big chance in doing so. We should also consider Samsung and Siemens. More power to them all.
