Hi, I wanted to know if any T68i users experience any type of lag when going from menu to menu or typing out an sms....for example, when I press the joystic from standby the 'swap over' to the menu interface isn't sharp ie. can see artefacts of the background pic or when typing an sms eg the word " hello" you can momentarily see the letter 'h' afetr you press 'e'..do you know what I mean???
Please let me know so I don't think that there is a software?? prob with my phone.... |

It is probably normal, but it depends on how long it takes. On my T68 it takes a little less than a second for the background picture to disappear completely when swapping to the menu interface. And the tekst lags a bit when typing.

Thatīs not a bug, itīs a feature, since SE worshippers are so slow to realise that there ARE other manufacturers out there with products at least as good as SE, they deliberately slowed down the UI to a crawl to prevent the users from doing something they maybe didnīt intend to.
No, seriously.. itīs like running Windows XP on a pentium 75 with too little RAM. It works but not very fast.
AND for you flamers out there, SE engineers have confirmed this to be true..

@floke
I wouldnīt think so
But my boss comes from a company closely related to Ericsson. There he had first a t68 then a t68i as "work-phone" and he asked the Ericsson folks why it was so laggy and they answered (translated freely from swedish) Itīs because unfortunately itīs a Lincoln Continental with a Fiat engine.

I don't know which software version you have in your T68i. The R5A and later software versions are much faster than the previous versions.
If you have earlier software versions an upgrade would improve the speed a lot.

This is how it is:
Nokia = Mercedes
SonyEricsson = BMW
Siemens = VW
SamSung = Toyota
Motorolla = Ford
Philips = Kia
Virtu = Bently

Dude.. The nokias are phones for the masses. Like toyota or ford or something like that.
Sony ericsson is for the more feature concious group of the people. Though they are slow(Except the p800 which is the fastest phone on the market).
I'd say they are Mercedes with lots of extras but somewhat lacking in the engine compartment....
As for the other brands. Siemens has the s55. Which is almost exactly like the t68i + java and poly ringers + an adequate "engine"
It is very good.
I'd say that siemens makes the best phones in at this time(Except of course the p800) |

I think you mean the screen that is slow, and indeed it is. But don't forget that this type of display is well over a year old. The screen of the T610 (and P800) is much faster. If you don't mean the display, then get some new software!
Btw, if you want to compare the T68i to phones of other manufacturers, compare it to what they had about a year ago... |

No. I don't mean the display.
Try typing a long sms, animated gifs, scrolling a wap page.
Although the phone is totally usable. I did not have any problems with speed. Except when editing contacts. The menu for editing contact details was mind numbingly slow.
The phone is notably slower than s55, most nokias, virtually all other brands.
My phones software was R5D...
P.S If you want a slow display. Take the phone outside when the temperature is really low. < 0 degree Celsius.
You can get to the new sms menu while still having the background picture on the screen!(almost) |

Well... since i bought my phone -this year- itīs pretty pointless comparing 1 year old models.. I mean, when i want a new phone i look at whatīs available like now. I did buy a t68i first, mostly because of its looks and features. I found out pretty fast that it was rather laggy and buggy (take a look around this forum and tell me that the t68i is a rock solid, bug free phone) A student at the university where i work showed me his S55 one day and i thought it was the phone the t68i should have been, or at least evolved into. I got my money back on selling the t68i and so far i donīt regret swapping..
My point is: I compare phones currently out on the market, and if there are one year old models still out and they havent revamped them itīs their problem. I choose whatīs best for me.
And regarding the display i wouldnīt mind if it had more colors but itīs really not that important to me.
Cheers!

I have a t68 upgraded to R6A. So far I have not noticed any lags in working with the phone. Initially I loaded the phone full with pictures and used custom themes - then it got slow, but once I removed the custom theme from use and cleaned up memory be deleting some pictures, the speed went up to normal. |
