T9 in Ericsson mobile phones |

T9 is still awfully slow even in the new "generation" of Ericsson mobiles. It's actually quite painful to write longer messages (like email) with T9 'cause it gets slower and slower the more you write. I've always wondered why... even Panasonic is way faster than Ericsson and Panasonic is sloooow compared with Nokia. I thought that the latest software updates for Ericsson mobiles would correct this problem but no (I have T65 with R2B)... then I thought that the Chatboard would help but the things I've read about it prove me wrong. Why do you think Ericsson has this problem? |

I can't offer any solutions to this one... But as a compulsive texter, it is a bit of a drawback I must say |

It cant be that hard to implement the t9-sw better in ericsson phones. I think they need to send a spy to nokia... |

they sure have a problem here, I don't know how Sony-mobiles are when writing with T), someone inform me!
But the T66 is extremly fast even when writing T9-SMS, actually fast then Nokias I've tried, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get ahead...
Let's hope that Ericsson has discovered a way to speed up T9 through the software cause then they'll probably add this to all softwares for all their other phones too very soon |

Yes, I hope can find a way to speed up the T9 in our phones via firmware/software. |

1. It's a refresh-rate problem from the color-screen
2. It could be like weak "cache memory" and updaterate from the chips
Well, I dunno :) Ericsson |

as post before, the same probel for T65's... so it shouldnt be a problem with the display refresh rate.. i think its just likely to be a software not too well done... |

One reason could be that the processor is too "weak" to handle T9. Which would imply that Ericssons technology on processors is far behind from other manufacturers. 'Cause it's a well known fact that the more speed the processor has the more power it drains from the battery. That's why they might use "old" processors so they could still compete with talk and standby times. This combined with the lack of optimization on the T9 software could produce a VERY slow typing system. But I'm only quessing here... |

Re 1: Can't be. T39, T28, etc are all slow-as, typing messages and navigating thru the menu's.
Re 2: What has Cache memory got to do with the input of key-taps? |

What's interesting, as I think someone here already mentioned, is that the T66 is as fast as Nokia phones. What's also interesting is that the T66 is made in Finland and seems to have a different software developer. That's based on the Software version that is 3-digit long like 389 instead of the usual R2A etc.
Maybe the T66 has a new generation SE software that will be implemented in our good old T68 |
