Got a really big problem
Im 10 months into a contract under my company... howerver.. im closing my company and i need to submit all my accounts by a dateline thats approaching soon.. this means I need to pay off my existing contract under the company, and restart another one personally, with the same number (and KEEPING my mobile number).
The problem is such... im on the vodaphone network.. and after ringing up i asked to pay off the contract and transfer number to me, whilst starting another....
They sent a very confusing transfer of ownership form... however.. i want to get a NEW handset.. thus i need to start a new contract in a mobile shop somewhere, or order off the carphonewarehouse for example..
After speaking to a shop assistant, they suggested getting a PAC code.. paying off the contract... then starting a new one with the PAC code.... i rang up vodaphone, and they said i could do this.... however.. carphonewarehouse says this:
"Which mobile numbers can I NOT Transfer?
-- Numbers already terminated with your current Service Provider.
-- Disconnected numbers"
I rang vodaphone again, and a different person told me to get the PAC code and transfer the number, then someone will contact about the rest of the payment after the number has been transfered..... but then surely this is breaking the contract?
It seems i cannot get a clear answer as to whether I should pay off the contract before using the PAC to transfer my mobile, or afterwards!!!
someone please help! |

If I understand correctly, you want to transfer your existing account with Vodafone from your business name to your personal name, whilst keeping the same number, get a new handset, and you have around two months left in that contract?
If so, then you have a couple of options. Firstly you can call whichever service provider your with on the Voda network (e.g. Singlepoint, Vodafone Connect, Vodafone Retail or one of the many other ones) and ask whether they will transfer that business account to your name and upgrade your handset at the same time. This will tie you in to another 12 month agreement, and you will keep the same number.
Secondly you can ask them (your service provider) to give you a PAC code so that you can migrate your number to another Vodafone service provider or port your number to another network (e.g.
T-Mobile, Orange, Virgin or o2). You will get a new handset, keep the same number and again sign up for another 12 months.
When your new network accepts your PAC and your existing service provider agree to transfer, once your old number is active on the new network your old contract will be cancelled automatically. So in either case there is no need to cancel your contract.
The benefits of each option are individual to you. You may want to try a new network, maybe another network has more of your friends and family on it (and therefore you should benefit from cheaper calls being on the same network). Maybe another network has a tariff which would better suit your needs. Or maybe you want to stay on the network your happy with and used to, its up to you.
My advice to you, based on the above info, is to call service provider to see what they can offer you for being loyal to their network. If you unhappy with that or you have seen a better offer on a tariff or handset, see if they can match it. If they can't, ask them for a PAC code and take your business elsewhere. Take your PAC and your proof of ID and address to a shop and they will transfer you and your number to a different network. It usually takes a week to transfer the number.
