why can't SE let us upgrade our phones by ourselves? |

I've been wondering...
What is with Sony Ercisson and there "go to a service point to have your phone flashed" ??
Come on, we have been flashing our PDA's, DVD drives, CDR's, mainboards and whatever else ourselves for years now right ?! :|
Does SE think so little of their customers since they make us drive to a service point for every update ? (for me that's a 1 hour drive!)
Just came to mind...

According to a friend of mine that works at SE, they haven't allowed the consumers to flash their phones by themselves beacuse they and the operators are afraid of "hacked" software on the mobile phones, which could potentially cause havoc on the networks. Also if the flashing procedure would be interrrupted during the flash you would have a non working phone. |

The part of the pirate software I can understand.. good point !
Interrupting a flash in progress always leaves one with a non useable device, but this risk we take every time we flash something.. I for one would not have any trouble with that.

There is a rumor that the P800 users will be able to upgrade their phones themselves when Sony Ericsson releases the upgrade to UIQ 2.1. |
