Does anyone have the default startup/shutdown that was included with R1A? I really liked that startup mp4 more over the default one that is currently present in R1B and later. If anyone has the files, post or PM me pleeeese!!!

Make sure they didn't change that because of problems, i read somewhere that some clips can freeze, leaving your phone completely useless. in need of SE attention.

Thanks for the "heads-up" pachy. I am aware that some clips may render your P800 useless.....uhhhh...what a scary thought!

That original screen is much better than the one they have today.

I like that green goo part...

Hi all,

Does anybody have the actual .mp4 files from that P800 or the ones from Orange? I would love to collect them or any other startup/shutdown animation.

Cheers,

I posted the orange ones up at allaboutsymbian and my-symbian forums in their P800 sections, so go there to grab 'em! Love to have the original R1A videos though!

Oh, and we think we know why some people's phones are freezing on startup when they use their own videos.

Basically the folder C:/sysdata is just a manual overide for some files contained in Z:/system/data. Thus the SE startup.mp4 and shutdown.mp4 videos are in Z:/system/data, along with a file popcorn.wav, which seems to be the startup sound. If you watch the videos on your computer, you'll see that while the shutdown video actually contains music, the startup one doesn't - it thus must actually be playing popcorn.wav, the sound we hear, while it plays startup.mp4 video. Thus those people who made a video with sound in for their startup vid, are actually trying to play two sound samples at the same time - both popcorn.wav (i.e. the default sound it always plays, unless possibly you make a different popcorn.wav in the C:/sysdata?) AND the sound from startup.mp4 that you've just made - thus the device crashes, only able to play one at a time?

That's my theory anyway - and it seems to be supported by the fact that some people who made their videos without any sound have no problem starting up their phones, while those who made vids with sound have crashed. Note that it seems this is only for startup - for some reason, the default and orange shutdown videos actually have sound, suggesting yours can too.

PLEASE REMEMBER - IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT IF YOU DO THE WRONG THING WHILE PLAYING WITH C:/SYSDATA YOU CAN STOP YOURSELF FROM BEING ABLE TO BOOT YOUR PHONE - EVERYTHING IS DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Thanks for bringing that to our attention, simion_levi. I also speculated that it was something having to do with the sound as a couple of user made a starup mp4 with sound and phone being unable to boot.

When you say it can crash your phone, what state does that put it in?

I.E how do you fix it?
is it a matter of performing a Master Reset or is it a return to the service center?

Ok, who cares about the startup/shutdown screens ?? It's there for about 2 seconds, and how often do you turn your phone on/off. I haven't turned my phone off since I got it....And if i need to turn it off...i certainly don't bother looking while it's shutting down

But...I guss we all have different needs
