I have an old R380s and a new P800. If I use the serial cable from the R380s with my P800, will this enable me to use the P800 with some of the older software? Im mainly talking about Phone Book and Text Message Manager and FMA, etc. Will the use of R380s cable let these programs see my P800 or are they technically incapable of reading data from the phone because it's software is architecturally different?

No.

The old software will probably not work for the P800. The cable can't do anything about it. It's just a cable.

The old software doesn't work, but the cable fits this unit just fine.

I am using it as a backup cable and it works perfectly (the USB cable has a simple converter to RS232 on the phone's base).

Also, the R380s charger is also a perfect fit.
