I am what might be one of the world's greatest and most loyal customers of Sony products. From Vaio laptops to Minidisc players, Discman, Walkman, Home theater systems, televisions, VCRs, phones, headphones to anything else - I've tried them all and I love them all. I am convinced that Sony are the greatest electronics manufacturer out there - especially in recent years.

I've always been an Ericsson fan when it came to mobile phones so the formation of Sony Ericsson made me really happy as it brought together the best of the two worlds of IT & C.

Up until recent models, all phones were still distinctly Ericsson. Im glad to see, especially in the P800, that Sony is finally contributing some of their genius to Sony Ericsson products. Take for example the jog-dial and MemoryStick slot on the P800. Found on Vaio laptops, these two features make life so much easier for the user. It's great to finally see these features appear on products.

Having a proprietary memory medium like the Mem Stick Duo that is very expensive and currently only supports a tiny 64mb is very Sony as well I'd say ...

128MB is on the way - and possibly more after that.
Also, it is not really proprietary in the true sense of the word. For someone like me, I have a Vaio notebook so the Memstick plugs into a slot very conveniently. For everyone else, there are very reasonably priced adapters out there. If you don't want to pay all the money that Sony Memory Stick costs, there are alternative brands that are the same size and will do the same job but just aren't Sony.

I think it's great.

I agree that Sony's memstick is actually a more reliable standard than the MMC/SD/SMC/CF "standards" that are out there... having 4 different memory standards isn't really having a standard now is it?

That aside, I like having the jogdial... although it's execution in the P800 is very limited, it's only useful in flip-closed mode. In flip-open, it's not as good as it could be... plus it isn't ambidextrous, unlike Ericsson's joystick.

I love Sony's manufacturing quality over Ericsson's. It's more consistent, and more durable.

I do NOT like Sony's design influence on SE though... they amde their entire lineup look like soap bars. :s oh well... not bad for their first attempt though... lets see how much better they get after the Z1010 (which still looks like a soap bar...a red one... but still a soap bar)

I love sony and ericsson but one thing that really bugs me about sony is the restrictions they put on mp3 usage. I have a net md player and i cant transfer songs to my mates computer even if there my own songs!

It is not Sony, it is SDMI or Secure Digital Music Initiative. Sony is just making its products SDMI compliant.

Yeah, wait till the new Intel processors come out; they'll have SDMI built-in. I believe Windows XP Service pack 2 will have support for this "Digital Rights Management".

In essence, you're allowed to make an MP3 backup of a CD, and copy it to your MD. BUT, sharing that MP3 with your mates is illegal.

@geo2k
on the latest version of the openmg jukebox, you are able to MOVE songs from your player to your mates pc...
basically it means that the song will no longer be in your player and you permanently lose one checkout count on your pc.
well, unless of course if your friend returns the song

MS duos CAN go higher than 128, IT says 1GB in the p800 whitepaper but I've heard talking about 2
BUT. I don't think the p800 can support more than 128MB...
