PRO lines have happened whenever Sony had some pricey flagship technology they wanted to trickle down into the regular 1 by using more massive produced components. Current 1V does pretty much everything PRO/PRO-I can but with different hardware. 1V can even record external video which is something original PRO can't despite hdmi connection.

I guess Sony kind of ran out of ideas for PROs but I would assume next year will be very different than past three years for Xperia. I would be surprised if we see another 5 series phone ever again and I'm betting on heavy refresh of 1 with updated sensors across the board and display.

What trickled down from Pro-i? Not the sensor, not the glass...

I think if the would make a new Pro model with all sensors being Exmor T with nicer lenses and variable aperture for all.

BTW, does 1V take 12 bit stills?

anyone gonna waste time watching the press? I think it is 3 am for USA east coast.

5v is "so interesting" that nobody has bothered to post anything anywhere about it, like all specs and price.

All video resolutions in BASIC mode. It took them only five years to do so.

They kill Album app but then re-introduce Movie Creator app as Video Creator which does the Album thing by listing your videos. What's next? They are going to re-introduce Sketch with different name?

Once again Cinema Pro gets zero tweaks and updates. Their stubbornness to introduce continuous focus into the app is mind blowing. When you are shooting for the real movie and it requires moving camera there is a focus puller by your side to make sure the subject is always in focus no matter what camera does.

Well, looks like PM-142xBV and PM-145xBV are either other phones canceled or they are regional variants of any of the three. Guess we should go to 2024, right?

WDR mode now has basic steadyshot, 1v does not have this. Only after android 14 update I suppose.

Oh yeah? Well that's a really good thing. But then again what did limit them to implement it into 1/5 IV as well? SoC low level features? Burst HDR stacking photo mode has object tracking so why they couldn't use it for video as well?

Video is more demanding than photo.
Just look at cameras. They can overheat while doing video, but you can take photos until battery dies.

I have to say I was wrong about 5IV zoom lens vs 5V 2x crop. 2x crop on 5V is absolute garbage compared to super tiny telephoto sensor on 5IV. By comparing images on gsmarena there is clear lack of texture on all 2x crop images of 5V. What a shit show. And not only that, they also gave 5V display frame of 10V so it has thicker side bezels compared to 5IV. And not only that but some Taiwan guy did the 5IV vs 5V comparison and 5V main camera is so super HDR looking compared to 5IV which burns highlights but it looks a lot more natural. 5V main camera casts object colors on white walls, makes skin tones too yellow and so on. 5IV does none of that.

Check out the photo of a girl sitting in a purple chair, 5V casts purple color on a wall, floor while upper wall and white doors are yellow. QB sensors have a really hard time keeping white as close to white as possible.

Anyone was expecting different? I said it was gonna be trash.
To do this trick, you need to use the full 48MP that out of QB brings tons of artifacts, the use center of the image. Way worse than what you would have by using center of bayer camera.

Sony needs to stop with cropping thing. Spek confirmed last year that periscope is imx650. That is 40MP 1/1.7" previously used by huawei (P and Mate 30 series) .. Sony is using less than its 1/3.

At least in Europe, it is €50 cheaper than 5iv was.

Whatever they did in 5V 2x process they have botched some steps in there. Also QB crop can't keep the whole frame in focus and can't keep up with tiny patterns as shown below. Just do 100% on balcony mesh

This is 10V telephoto

It is pretty clear sony does not even care about 10 and 5. Just make both. Just check the announcement of 5iv and 5v. Not a single person from sony is there. Just unknown guest. Now compare to 1. There is always someone from Sony, someone from Qualcomm, the video is longer and more technical.

About side frames. Any info if 5v is using 10v screen?

Cover glass of the display is same on both 5 and 10 that's beyond obvious. I guess internals are different, that's a given.

Comparison images on that link show much better panel and frame integration on 5V compared to 5IV and much better camera island on 5V. So at least they evolved in housing quality compared to last gen.

5v is so lame that looks like it is not gonna be available in all markets 1v is sold. Days ago I saw it was not on sony UK page, sony USA does not have it as well.

Bonus: so , iphone 15 pro max may have exmor T periscope. Sony using crap crop of 650. 🤦🏻‍♂️
