Would like to add that HDR doesn't do nothing at nightime/dusk shots. It's awlays been like that on Xperias.

I think HDR will make a difference. Only need longer exposure for night shots.
Because I tried 2 seconds exposure for long exposure. The HDR took around 6 seconds to expose and record fully and 2 seconds for DRO and off mode.

Might try and give updates.

I got my Xperia 1II two weeks ago. I won't go into too much detail right now, but the device is excellent.

However, I suspect I might have a hardware issue with the telephoto camera. Maybe you guys could help me out here.

When I shoot with the telephoto and point it at a strong light source, I get side flare, even though I place the light source exactly in the middle of the frame. Usually, if one wants to avoid this kind of flare and reflection, one would place the light source exactly in the middle of the frame. In my case, only when I place the light source a little to the left do I avoid this flare and reflection.

It is as if the sensor isn't perfectly aligned with the lens. Or it could be an OIS issue?

I've also noticed that when I shoot at night with the telephoto and use a tripod for a long exposure, I get motion blur for no apparent reason.

So I wonder what the hell is going on...

Perhaps someone who has got the 1ii could check this out on his device?

70mm direct into the sun in program auto mode with DRO on. Forgot to switch to full auto. (lucky for the cloud ) ISO 1000. 1/50000 sec (surprised )

200mm direct into sun ISO 1000 1/50000 sec (surprised at the shutter speed again )

Update :

Using auto mode in photography pro 70mm ISO 25 1/10000 sec

200mm ISO 25 1/50000 sec (surprised )

Another one

Small green blob ~

Check this page and next page for night shot using tripod.

Thank you for the effort. For comparison, I need sample where you place the sun exactly in the middle of the frame (you may switch to center focus).

Here's what I mean:

in this I have no side flare or reflections, but the sun isn't at the exact center of the frame (it's 1/50000, iso25)

but in this sample, the light source is indeed exactly at the center of the frame. You can spot that green reflection on the left side (which shouldn't be there as the light source was placed at the center).

First photo I see here has ISO 1000.
That is why it is too bright.
1000 is high even at night for the main camera.

Haha yeah thats the part I found out it was in program auto and I set the ISO to 1000 before taking those snaps. Then adjusted settings and posted again below.

And BTW the sun was too shiny for me to try to position in center (I cant see because its really too glaring ) thats why I tried to take one more .

Update. From my testing, an observation is HDR still work operating on 2 secs shutter timing (see the stars on the 2 seconds exposure photos. Use your phone display and set higher brightness to see more clearly. The HDR version captures better stars) but on the 8 sec onwards it likely disabled probably due to it not going to function well (I did a mental timing on the recording time as well and the HDR timing became same as the DRO and OFF timing). And HDR does work for long exposure but cease for longer exposures. I have yet to try if it works for 4 secs shutter though. Photo settings set at ISO64.

DRO 2 Secs (Less prominent stars)

HDR 2 Secs (STARS BECAME MORE PROMINENT)

Off 2 Secs (Less prominent stars)

DRO 8 secs

HDR 8 secs

Off 8 secs

DRO 15 Secs

HDR 15 Secs

Off 15 Secs

DRO 30 Secs

HDR 30 Secs

Off 30secs

30secs exposure seem to blur because likely the breeze had wobbled my mini setup.

i will be getting my 1ii sometime in the next week, so I am searching for a screen protector.

i would like to get the spigen tempered glass one, but it seems they only sell it in europe

anybody in the states have a good tempered glass protector?

obviously, i want one that fits perfectly and has adhesive throughout, not just on the edges. i will be using a protective case, so one that doesn't go all the way to the edges is fine.

hopefully i can find one before my phone comes otherwise i'll just have to be extra careful

You'll need to set up a new account (unless you happen to have an Amazon Japan account), but it's quick. The prices are good and shipping is s quite fast (at least to my country). You can also find Spigen cases there.

spigen sadly limits their distribution. they won't ship to the US.

guess i need to find another one. does the one you linked have full adhesive or only along the edges?

I am not sure any camera will allow you to point directly at the sun to take a photo unless it has a very special lens filter, it isn't really a natural shot that anyone would take - might even damage the sensor

also for night shooting the wide angle sensor seems to respond better

in the standard app is there an option to choose which sensor to use or is it selected automatically

No problem doing that and I don't see this could damage the sensor. Anyway, my complaint is not about the existence of flare but about its position.

I'll post a better illustration later on.
