that's a pretty crazy rumor...

don't remember where I read it, but didn't Sony say that they didn't do the high refresh because they don't make 120hz refresh 4K screens in the size they used?

if that is the truth, then i find it hard to believe they'd be able to update it via software AND.. if they were gonna update it via software anyway, then why put the motion blur feature in at all? just say "we're working on software update for 120hz" like they said for RAW and other stuff.

Nope. Not gonna happen. Someone is just guessing here because the refresh rate has nothing to do with software but hardware actually. If they had hardware high refresh rate bandwidth on display controller they would have enabled this feature from the get-go, no reason to wait for some update. But they don't have that, their driver doesn't support 120Hz in any resolution.

yea - that's basically what i said.

You do not know if screen is indeed 60 or 120 locked like previous phones.
Also, 1080@120 will for sure spend more power than 4K@60.
1080@120 of Samsung uses 25-30% more than 3K@60, even on Snapdragon variant.
Not even counting the fact it is pointless to pay for 4K if person prefers lower res + 90/120.
Waste of money.

I'm so tempted to upgrade this year. I can't remember the last time Sony/ has gave me this much amazement on a phone.

Xperia 1 II - Probably the Best Smartphone review by ERP

Skip to 7:50, the AF system of this phone is a beast, switching swiftly and actively between hardware and software. I'm blown away

I really wonder how much of a difference the lack of iTOF sensor on the 5ii will affect this AF capability.
Also, with the new iphone 12 pro coming up with Sony's iTOF sensor (LIDAR), apple will again steal the show, claiming all the credits, though I agree they're good business partner to Sony.

When google release new android for pixel, other companies already have it to work on it..
In a normal year, Sony would had announced the new phone about 10 days ago, with option to ship with 11 if they wanted to.

🎧 is about $250.

You'd be paying less than $1000 for the device.
5ii may be out in Asia in few weeks, in case you like it too.
