@PPL The issue is the fact many people based their next purchase based on what they read. Then they tell frinds and family to go for brand A and instead of brand B. If a brand pays to have good reviews, they can easily be paying to see other bashed. Remeember what was done to HTC years ago?

Going by this then we should not watch or read any reviews at all as we do not know for sure who has been paid and who has not.

Take everything with a pinch of salt as you do with the internet but it's good to read and extract the key points. I've never thought about it as I'm right handed but my nephew got an S10+ after he read about the side FPS being awkward for left handed people. It's something important for him. |

@Hawk that's why I think sm is wasting their money and time sending these devices to those people. There was something like you said a couple of years ago, some company paid people to comment on other brand pages to bash that brand while praising theirs. It was either Huawei or Samsung.
@tsepz, of course we'll watch or read reviews but some are really obvious about their bias. And there are some that have more scientific tests or samples that proves their claims. Gsmarena's samples speak for themselves for example or notebookcheck's screen test, heat test, storage test etc. Yt channels like witrigs have fair comparisons. But others with bad intentions show it when they compare 1 to 1+7 while not mentioning the headphone bundle. Or that tech chap who praised Samsung where it shines but forgot to mention X1 has superior super wide camera. Then I don't have any respect for them.
Of course valid criticism is fine like front camera the pocketability, too many buttons on one side... The key is balance and not holding back credit where it's due. |

Gsma gave at first 4,6 to X1.
Then they changed to 4,2 and Kaloyan justified that readers pointed out one of subcores had doubled score.
But he let scape the fact subcore could only be seen by gsma staff. Which means readers could not know it.
S10+ got 4,5 and Samsung users did not like to see sony phone above and asked them to do it.
Since no site wants to lose readers, of course they did it.
Review of XZ2P had same 4 night samples they take with all phones. Everyone was expecting like 10 photos or more from many places.

My Xperia 1 arrives today, I can't wait. I've found reviews to be all over the place. Some say low-light photos are impressive, others say they're bad. Most reviews state the screen blows any competitors out of the water, one I read says it's not as good as Samsungs. All of them say the phone is buttery smooth. I find the positive reviews come with no preconceived notions, while the more negative ones are based on why the reviewer likes his Samsung. So if they mention: no curved screen, side button, form factor etc as negatives then it's like a reviewer knocking an SUV because he likes wagons. Fact is we can have 5 fantastic phones from different manufacturers and it's really taste that decides the choice. |

Look how these two posts contradict each other about GSMArena
Let’s just agree that only reviews that paint the Sony in good light consistently are reliable and call everyone else paid and iphonearena/samsungarena/oneplusarena etc...
Good catching up guys.
We will do this again with the X2.

Never said gsmarena is unbiased, but looking at samples I can think for myself.

The posts are not opposite.
He says about cam sample.
Mine's about final score changed.
It is weird to me when xz2 with all design issues have better score.
Also suspect they were not able to do screen measurements with creator mode turned on.
The review of midranges were more honest.
No excuse to take away points like 1.
Look at few of the cons:
1) no AF for UWA (never pointed as con for LG phones), since UWA are made cfor landscapes there is no reason to have AF because everything will be in focus.
2) no wifi 6 ( not pointed as con for OP7)
3) no night mode ( despite these modes making very artificial photos and phone is able to use 30s shutter)
4) no jack was not con against iphone xs max
Like I said, if you think s10+ is better I dont see problem. For many the jack and Qi are important, also better 4K EIS. There are things X1 is better at.
But Mi9 that does not have even QHD, no sd slot, no stereo, no jack too, no IP rating, no wifi 6 too, notched screen, no gg6 on rear panel, usb 2 instead of 3.1 ,one of the highest SAR , less than 4.000 sunlight ratio even with oled has same score of X1?

This guy is just a cocky arrogant who visits the topics of Sony phones just to provoke those who like the brand.
All he says is to belittle anything that speaks well of Sony phones.
It's just a b-hurted who feels superior with this childish sarcasm.
He never adds anything positive to any discussion here, he's always bothering.
