Gsmarena announced the review will be up today. They are fair, compared to others.

by my eyes and those results.. looks like sony failed again. are they terrible? no. but they should be doing at least on par for the money. cut the gimmicky eye tracking and improve the sensor/post processing..
i really wonder if sony didn't have a pretty healthy camera business, if they would produce the best mobile phone cameras...
yes i know the cybershot/alpha team were "involved" with the X1.. but do you see cybershot/alpha quality? nope.

I think low light is fine. It has better detail across the frame, better than Pixel3,XS Max,S10+, comparable to p30p but with darker exposure, more noise and more sharpening.
Imo good light photo is worse than bad light. Is it a fail no, but a dissappointment non the less.

for all of you crying about 4k stabilization just go settings and change your codec from h.264 to h.265 and it works great!in cinema app the codec h.265 it's set by default and it's awesome... in regular app change it manually...Sony Xperia 1🙌

You, Sir, are a genius. I've just done that and the difference is quite remarkable.

Clicked the first link and his channel is empty tho.
Do you have any video samples comparing the 2 different codec? And also, from the GSMArena review, I've realized that the softness of general image is as mentioned by others, due to the F1.6 lens. Pics on the wide angle lens are beautiful and detailed. |

Great review score, get this out and promote it hard. I had a play with one in store and I'm 100% going to buy the one that comes at IFA with smaller screen but watching 4K content is amazing. Guess it will come down to price in September or October. Happy for Sony to get most things right and also hit it off with the mainstream review sites. I see SuperSaf is also reviewing it with a lot of interest. |

H265 is a codec that comprass a bit and you actually dont even see quality difference to H264.
So it is easier for the phone apply better EIS.
"The 5-axis EIS works really well and we're glad to finally have it on for 4K footage on Xperia phone. It seems OIS is getting in its way as we observed some jerkiness of the video, which usually occurs when the lens is stabilized and the system doesn't keep up with the camera movement. For example, the ultra-wide-angle camera lacks OIS and the SteadyShot EIS seems to be working better here as the footage is smoother."
I was right, OIS make it worse.

OIS is there for still image.
I wonder why the other brand didn't have the same problem with OIS.=

It's all about bitrate I think
Sony's video recording has the highest bitrate among the others..
That is why when you change the codec from h264 to h265 you can't see any jerkiness in video recording, ois make it difficult too handle such massive amount of data
This is my opinion |

For those that own the phone, does it overheat? I'm having phobia of having owned multiple Xperias before that throttles badly due to the heat. |

Lots of reviews loving this phone, hope they can translate this into sales. First time I've been optimistic and excited for the next announcement with a solid intention to buy. |

I've had no heating issues at all.
Reviews are generally very positive, which I'm liking. Often it's felt like sites have overlooked what makes Xperia phones so good and focused too much on niggles. This time they seem to have got it right.
