That is what happens with tiny sensor and f1.6.
As you increase aperture, more of the frame goes out of focus.

P30 Pro also has f/1.6
S10 has f/2.4 for good light.
P30P has better overall sharpness than Samsung's smaller aperture. Also look at the heart shaped thing, it looks the best on 1. Over Xs Max, Pixel and S10. The sharpness does not decrease over the frame that much. At least that's good.
Look at this. It's hilarious.
They made a camera that takes better low light pics than good light.

When you use Samsung and take one pic with f2.4 and then another with f1.5 not only exposure, iso and shutter speed changes. DOF too.
The difference is much more obvious for close objects.
The % of the frame in focus will be higher for f2.4 than f1.5.
You wont notice this for landscape.
But for insects, flowers, food etc you will.
Another example, if you put a 50mm f8 on A9 background wont have blur, but 50mm f1.8 will.
People are happy because chocolate bar style is back.
I think purple is the best seller.
At least among people that comment on internet.

Why should we bother so much about dxo anyways
Nowadays it's just pay and win
Sony cameras are distinctive on their own ways... I hope they go in the right direction with the next device |

I know those things. But 1 has better focus than others in corners and edges. What do you say to that?
It's not lens distortion. 1's center is not sharp, that's where focus should be strongest. But does not loose any more sharpness across the frame. Very interesting thing.
Bar style is appreciated because of that monstrous flow design. I'm not saying it's ugly. It's just not special.
Btw lonewolf, these are from Gsmarena not DxO.
The 1's dedicated thread also shows this weird blur. Hope it is noticed and fixed. |

We should not expect miracles from Alpha because hardware is weaker.
Of course photos would look better with imx400.
Huawei does not have better processing than Apple nor Google, but hardware difference was enough to easily win.
Larger sensor not only catches more light, but natuarally more DR.
Less need to use fake DR that makes photos fake.
If they dont want to go 1/1.8" or more. Should at least stick with 1/2.3".
We know how did that work for midranges.
Someone here said way before the mwc that steadyshot was going to be much better.
Even z2 does better than 1.
That is why I say OIS is useless for video.
Software can act faster than hardware.
They needed to find a way to make steadyshot work for photos.
Or add IBIS. |

There's 2 firmware published for Xperia 1 now
55.0.A.2.205, 1April patch, the camera sucks
55.0.A.2.278, 1June patch, the camera is way better
for 55.0.A.2.278, it is just less than a week, i strongly believe that gsmarena is using old version firmware to do the camera test |

The device called "20" is Japan only or international?
Curious to see specs.
Htc is going to bring U19e with SD710, 6 + 128, wide + tele, iris scanner and stereo boom sound.
If they tested old firmware, Sony is one to blame.
Should have shipped the review units few days latter.
Or at least like OP did. Device with new firmware for DxO, old firmware to costumers.

It's not gsmarena's fault. If this is the case sony should have at least warn them, not let them review the phone on that fw. Sony is acting like they don't want to sell. It's not that hard. Tech spurt guy also made his review, people are deciding on those to buy or not. Man this phone's release has been a total mess. |

I drop in from time to time, but don't follow every detail. I also dropped my Z5C ! Back cracked, otherwise functional, and Sony don't want to fix it as it's too old / don't have the parts / can't be bothered. So a couple of questions :
* I guess Sony's current line-up is 1 / 10 / 10 Plus / L3 ?
* Can someone summarise current rumours, say which phones are coming, which size, when, likelyhood info is accurate ?
I saw a 1 in a shop - nice looking screen though 4K's probably overkill, completely mad size / aspect ratio, looks comical, certainly isn't pocketable. I'm not a uber power-user who must have the latest and greatest, but a high-ish spec compact would have been nice. Frankly the Xperia Ace would do, given no other choices, but seems we're (UK) not going to get that either |

Xperia 1 review is out on gsma
Good news for Sony fans
It scored better than s10+
Also the only current shortcoming as far as i think is the battery capacity and 3.5mm jack.. Otherwise the phone is somewhat perfect
For me gsma is as unbiased a site can be
The cameras are currently one of the best in the industry i think
Idk why they left the sunlight legibility test?? |

Since the end of 2018 they left a lot of reviews without sunlight ratio.
They are getting lazy lately.
Dont worry, it is impossible for an oled flagship to score below 4.200 ...

The rumours are that end of August at IFA there'll be a 6.1" version of the 1 announced.

At first I thought this phone was going to be the one at MWC, the 5G demo unit.
But that is dual cam.
Unless they make a simpler version to go against s10e, dual cam only. |
