Well, Tony was saying "hopefully we will see the 5k device this year." so it's still on the table but most realistic time for that is early next year imo. 1 should remain as the best for a while. The thing is big guns are pulled later in the year by others, Sony keeps a reverse strategy. (xz2p had to be delayed) |

HMD uses Zeiss, still has corner softness.
Something you will barely see if use 28mm instead of 26/25/24.
10 has less corner issues than XA2 because it is no longer 24mm.
They should do like LG and use glass lenses instead of plastic.
Except LG , all use plastic lenses.

Well, What I hate is the stupid distortion. Corner softness is less critical issues.

All wide lenses have distortion.
It is up to the software to minimize them as much as possible.
Of course 0% distortion is impossible.
1 has the option to "fix" distortion like previous motion eye phones.
I saw a sample of the 16mm with correction on and off.
The typical photo of a laptop, few inches away only.
Photo look very very flat when correction is on.
Weird thing it is that the devices with imx400 have more than other xperia that use other sensors.
Z2, Z3 and Z4 had same 25mm, while Z5 was 24mm.
They had more corner softness but not distortion issues.

That camera module photo does look right. The OIS lenses being Milvus and the ultra Wide is labelled Sunny, which would be Sunny Optical.
Odd that the branding isn't being used at all.

Distortion is easily corrected for in software, pretty much all camera lenses have a profile that tells the camera or RAW editing software how to correct their particular distortion.
Corner softness is much harder to deal with.

Just the clarify a little bit, HMD didnt use Zeiss, same as Huawei, they didnt use Leica
They got certification (They paid to use the name), not manufactured by it |

A curved sensor would fix the corner softness while being a thinner module. Though you'd probably need to stabilize the whole module for ois.
Older sensors were too wide but I guess it made the module not protrude. Once that became normal and protruding cams delivered worthy results it didn't make sense.
Tony where are you on that 5k device? |

Does that mean lenses of Xperia 1 are manufactured by Zeiss?
