This. Before they bought Ericsson's shares they blamed Sony IP for not being able to fully use the Walkman, CyberShot and Playstation brands and possibilities. Now 7 years later they still blame someone else (Alpha division or whoever).
I do think they have a big chance of a comeback now though.
2G era had its big dogs, 3G era had its big dogs and 4G era had its. Now it's time for a new era, the 5G era, and history tells us with each new era at least one will fall and get replaced by someone else. No one is irreplaceable.
And lets be honest here, many (at least here in Sweden) are not happy with the Chinese brands after using them for a year or so, often really good specs for the price you pay but shortcomings in updates and other areas. (Your opinion may differ, it's still your opinion vs someone else's) |

Every year, they have a huge chance of coming back but there are always something missing or bad they did to further damage their reputation. They're starting to change last year, but it didn't work that well because everything about last year's phones were half-baked. The year before, they didn't take that huge opportunity to change and do something they've never done before + not following trends that are good. The year before that, it's almost the same story.
How's Sony (specifically Sony Mobile) doing in Sweden, though?

Sony (Ericsson) has gone from being one of the biggest brands in Sweden just a couple of years ago to being mostly irrelevant. Sony forums used to be very active on tech sites but now they are empty. Swedroid, the biggest android site in Sweden, had a poll about which mobile brands people thought would disappear in the coming years, HTC and Sony got the most votes. |

What motvikt said. Sony was doing well in Sweden up until I would say 3 years ago. Now the phones are not even being showcased in the big stores. |

I am also disappointed in the current status of sony mobile division
Since it has merged with the tv and camera sensor division i think we can see some big steps being taken forward.
It will allow the phones to have bigger r and d
If sony could bring back the 3.5mm jack it would be great |

Sony to cut 50% of its staff in the mobile unit, some 2000 people, by next year:

This is truly awful news. I hope those who are being completely let go are at least getting good packages.
So it looks like Sony will not be selling in South Africa anymore going by this as it only mentions Europe and South East Asia, which makes sense because down here they barely exist, we see their ads here and there but they don't have much of a market anymore, Apple even have more market share than them here.

Hmm, he confirms multi frame processing which is still buggy. And says HDR is soft, still behind others. Less noise which is expected. Night scene algorithm not final. If he's really using the 1 that is. |
