Those 10+ samples on Reddit aren't bad, and like they mention in that discussion Imgur compresses the photos so those aren't fully quality. Hopefully the poster uploads the full quality ones soon as promised. Even still, the amount of detail and lack of noise that we're used to seeing on Xperias at full zoom is nice. Plus I don't think we even have confirmation that the 10 series is using the same post processing method as the 1 where it applies noise filtering to the raw file then compresses to JPEG a the interview posted earlier only mentions this method being used on the 1.

BTW, someone posted in the Xperia 1 thread that Sony Mobile is now part of the imaging division. I asked for a source but didn't get one. Anyone happen to have a link with this info?

Phones now use less resolution, of course there will be less noise.

P20 Pro looks ugly at 40, but way better at 10.
Same for mi9 48 and 12.
Same for XZ1/XZ2/XZ3 19 and 12.

Isocell are cheaper, maybe it is costs cutting.
Sony has 1/3" and 1/4" but I dont think they same something between, so it is easier to buy 1/3.4" from Samsung than developing new sensors.
The tele and ultra wide seem to be isocell too. Same specs of what Sammy uses.

Gsma usully takes pics from same scenes, so the best way to compare 10+ vs XA2+ is to download similar pics, turn 23MP into 12MP. Then compare both.

Honestly, they look better than op6 or mi8.

I just copied that statement from techrader. Sorry, I was a bit busy.

Thanks.

Yeah, I found it interesting because if mobile gets rolled into imaging then in future earnings reports mobile probably wouldn't appear as a separate category anymore. Not to mention if it's part of imaging then we're more likely to see even more crossover between the imaging departments tech and mobile I think.

Yeah, I've been comparing the 10+ shots to the XZ3 and while there's obviously less overall detail due to the difference in megapixel count, what is there is overall cleaner and more pleasing than the XZ3. It makes me very hopeful for the results the X1 will give.

I like that Sony continues to deal with the biggest issues with their devices. Poor camera performance seems to be dealt with now. Odd fingerprint sensor placement from last year is dealt with now. Already slim bezels are even slimmer while not including an ugly notch or cutout. It is a shame they removed the wireless charging that was on the XZ3 as that's just a negative against the phone they didn't necessarily have to incur.

Anyways, glad they're moving in a good direction and hope they continue to try and innovate with each iteration instead of just do small, incremental upgrades.

why SONY doesn't use high storage methods like SAMSUNG? We barely see the 128 GB, no 256 even, while there is 512 GB & 1TB now

beside why no dedicated SD card?

those 2 reasons stopping me from getting SONY mobile for many years

Probably because Sony doesn't push high volumes of phones, so creating 3 or 4 SKU's with different storage amounts would be wasteful and leave a lot of products unsold. Not to mention Samsung makes memory, so they can probably save a bit of money there. And putting larger storage would mean having to increase the base price of the phones, which could mean fewer sales.

If Sony didn't include expandable storage I could see complaining about the relatively lower storage amounts, but since they do I don't see it as much of a problem.

I wish they were offering 32Gb version.
I think it is stupid the fact companies offer 128Gb as base option.
SD card is there for you keep your stuff like photos, videos, songs and files ...
There are ppl who like flagship features but wont use 300 apps.
Newer sd cards are as fast as emmc.

Soon even low ends will be 64Gb as base, this will have bigger impact on basic users.
Ppl will keep their phones longer because of price on the rise.
I know a lot of ppl that only use whatsapp, FB, instagram and youtube.
They easily deal with 8 and 16Gb phones.

I think mine never had more than 23Gb used.
And now almost all my apps are now on iPad.

Sadly, all flagships use hybrid slot.

Well it's not just apps that eat up storage but also photos, videos (4K videos especially can take up a lot of space) and downloaded media like music from Spotify for example. With the OS already taking up a decent chunk of space 32GB just doesn't cut it these days IMO. 64GB is the minimum that should be offered on a higher end device I think.

Memory prices will always keep going down so I doubt you're paying THAT much more for the jump from 32GB to 64GB anyways.

I like what Apple does. Many different storage versions.
Except when they skip 64 Gb for few devices to make you pay for 128 if 32 is not enough to you.
My iPad is the 6th gen, 32 or 128 , no 64.

For example here the iphone Xs 256 costs $200 more than 64Gb.

If all flagships had options 32, 64, 128 and 256 would be great.
Then you pay for what you need.
I like too what few chinese brands do, they offer 4 + 64, 6+128 and 8+256.

3+32 is enouh to satisfy me, the rest of the phone is more important to me.

At least here in 2016, Sony charged same price for X , single sim+32 or dual + 64.

Anyone here in USA? Their website says only single sim and black/purple.

@vivftp, combining imaging and mobile is a good idea since both departments are small compared to the likes of Playstation.

Also, less resources will be spent, which is more efficient

If this phone too had a 21:9 screen and it was to be truly 'compact' then the screen might be too thin to be able to use comfortably. 16:9 with slimmer top and bottom bezels than the Z3 Compact would be the way to go IMO. Oh, and a metal frame.

More exclusive news by my uncle (^_^) Xperia 4 will be exclusive to docomo japan. And is relatively compact, but not very compact as before. Good or bad news is 710 snapdragon. Battery life in talks is higher that xz1 compact. wow

now my opinion, with 710, at least in terms of battery will be good. But for games it will be bad.
