User azzido is too annoying.
I have never seen someone complain/troll that much.
Not even those that are paid to bash....
Just read s10+ review. GSMA is not impressed.
Battery test scored just 91h with 4100mAh.
Night photos are awful, way worse than previous generations.
Night shots and selfie of XZ2P are much better.
Did not pay much attemption to daylight photos ....
Nothing wow ...

If u can accept gsma not being impressed by Samsung phones then u shud know that they are not interested by any sony phones either.. Not being a hater though

s10+'s camera isnt lookin good and 4100 mah battery doesnt live up to hype maybe exynos cpu eats too much power.
now i wonder if xperia 1 would exceed s10+'s endurance rating with something like 3580 mah battery.
and about cam sensors imx 586(honor view20)'s 12 mpx samples have best detail with xz2 series(maybe a little sharp even) in gsmarena's tool.@video side xz2 series still unbeatable though.

Last year they decided to measure how HDR the screen of xz3 was, just to complain in the end.
This test was never done before.
Did u guys watch the many hands-on vids of 1?
The phones looks much better compared to the photos.
Curious to know if Japan again will get an exclusive colour again.

If sony puts a 4kmah battery on its flagship it would be top in its segment i have no doubt about that
All these while they refrained from using ois and stuck to a larger sensor with eis
But now all of a sudden they ditched the larger sensor for a smaller sensor and put ois
This is what i dont understand
It seems that they are crippling themselves |

1 is the most generic Xperia they ever put out imo.
There's nothing special made exclusively for it except the screen.
No mirror finish or color changing in different light, no special sensor, generic design. The front cam is shared with the lowest end. UI comes straight from vanilla Android. Oled is supposed to be thin, 8.2mm with small battery. Where does all the space go?
I still like it but is this really the premium replacement? I doubt it.
This feels like a placeholder for what's to come. |

xperia 1 is just like xperia reborn model, like a basic flagship model if it doesnt have 4k oled screen.
something i dont get it why sony choose to have a 4k model for mwc if they wont release another 4k model with 5g modem this year.
especially camera setup doesnt look like special even though 3 cameras, maybe they have better performance then last year phones but it's strange while there will be even midrange chinese phones with imx586.
i wonder about something, are there anyone knows if (26mm) 48 mp camera with (52mm) 12 mp camera can zoom optical 8x? |

According to was said here, 1 has two versions.
The 4G to be out in soon and 5G to be out later H1.
I think the 5G prototype at their booth must be IFA phone.
It was possible to see the device has same design but dual cam.
Imx586 is a generic sensor available to any brand interested.
Just like imx258 (1/3" 13MP) was widely used by tons of devices.
The 586 is not 3 layer stacked cmos like imx400 and this new used inside X1.
Without the DRAM, there is no 960fps, no 4K HDR HLG , no Predective Capture , no burst with AF, no anti distortion shutter , more rolling shutter.
No current phone has true optical zoom. Just 2x or 3x digital for longer focal length.
2x digital zoom of 52mm will look better than 4x digital zoom of 26mm.
The "Hybrid Zoom" is a mix of images from both.
Huawei uses 80mm but had 5x hybrid ..
P30 Pro seems to have 10x hybrid.
Xperia 1 has just 5x digital for main cam, no more 8 x like previous devices.
And of course it cant do iso12800 video, nor iso51200 photos..
If they give the Bionz X and Raw NR to XZ2P, I bet it can easily beat 1 ....

With 26 mm and 52 mm lenses, the optical zoom will be 2x (52 divided by 26). When you want a phone to have 8x zoom, you should have the 52 mm lens changed to 104 mm and the other lens changed to 13 mm (104/13 equals  .
@hawk52: the total zooming capability for xperia 1 would be 10x, 2x with optical zoom + 5x further with digital zoom on the telephoto camera.

assume light is enough, 12 mp image crop with 48 mp sensor equal to 4x optical zoom, this is right isnt it?
i mean if there is a third sensor that can zoom 2x , will it turn to 8x?
xz2 premium have imx 400(7,73mm) and imx412(7,86mm) and imx586(8mm)'s size is really close, i know it hasnt dram,but sony mobile always uses special sensors for their own phones so they can do another version.
tony said aube is for later, so it means they wont ditch it.
i'm pretty sure we will see 8k video next year and it needs 33,2 mpx sensor (without interpolation)at least
we need a high mexapixel sensor,a monochrome and a sensor for zoom like huawei,i wonder what are the chances we can see something like this year?

Found this article where Trustedreviews spoke with Adam Marsh, Sony's sensior manager of global marketing about this phone:

Some highlights:
The Sony Xperia 1 also processes photos in the same way as Alpha cameras, according to March. “Normally when you take a picture, the phone will then compress it into a JPEG and then add the noise reduction. How Alpha does it is that it takes the Raw image, adds the algorithm to reduce the noise on the Raw image, then compresses it to JPEG, then you put noise reduction on top. That’s how Alpha is doing it. From Xperia 1, that’s how Xperia 1 will do it as well”, he said.

There have also previously been issues with interdepartmental rivalry stifling collaboration, Marsh admitted. “Even though we’re one company, there are still sometimes barriers that Alpha doesn’t want to give Mobile certain things, because all of a sudden you have the same as what a £3,000 camera’s got.
“Now that barrier’s gone a little bit. They’re saying “okay, we see that having a smartphone and camera that gives you the same experience is a good thing”, he added.
Great news all around. Also discusses why they didn't go with the 48 megapixel sensor. Should be interesting to see how they continue down this path |

Steve Jobs said once that if you do not canibalize own product if necessary, someone else will.
With Galaxy F and Mate X, Apple will feel they have to do same.
Then a big fordable iPhone will take place of iPads.
Except the true zoom skills, soon smartphones will reach RX100 level.
Maybe 2 year ...
These small pocket cameras are facing serious sales decline already.
One day Sony will have to give up on this 1" cameras, but they can keep earning money with Xperia.
Better than losing sales for other brands.
Someone here said that 666 is real but still prototype.
And it would be 1/1.5" not 1/1.8".
This one with maybe a 1/1.8" mono+ aube could maybe be between 1" and M4/3 performance.
I hope they can give 8K recording for MWC 2020 phone, so ppl can use at Tokyo Olympics.

Internal rivalry? Do they even realize how stupid that sounds? I agree with Hawk, they must have seen how other brands were going to replace their compact cameras.
I mean duh, we know that 48mp sensor. Who wants that? I expected a custom version of that rgbw or quad Bayer sensor with dram and at least 1/1.8. And tof definitely. 5g S10 has it, Sony will too. 1 is good but ain't a premium. |
