Samsung has been smart to go up against Apple. The S10+ is the same size as the iPhone XS Plus and the S10E same as the XS but with XR price. S10E has better spec than XR and should actually be compared to XS yet is a lot cheaper. It looks like a great alternative while the S10 is great despite being expensive.
XZ4 looks great but it's comparable to the S10+ due to size, a Compact XZ4 would've been great as an alternative because the XA3 won't appeal to anyone. I've had a good look at the S10 and that punch hole is so distracting when watching video, especially the S10+.
The Compact is still my main interest, will hold out for that. |

Samsung does things because Apple has done.
If Apple brings a phone with rear screen like Meizu and Vivo, Samsung will too.
If Apple uses zebra design for rear panel, galaxy will have too.
List is huge : first Galaxy looks a lot like an iphone (Apple tried to sue Sammy, but lost) , the 4:3 screen tablet, speaker beside usb, speakers are holes instead of grills, 52mm tele with same f , 12MP main cam, yellow color, their TW android 5 and 6 had icons with same shape of iOS, the dumb assistent, physical home button, home as FPS, notch , s7 black piano came from nowhere after iphone 7 jet black, sim tray needs a tool...
I'm glad Sony does not have this kind of obsession.....

...Button under is the retard solution of a separate power button to press first and then a separate fps to press...
No need to push the power button and then touch the fps...the power button is used to bring up the lock screen and/or turn off the screen, power down, restart...
Just touching the fps will bypass the lock screen, turn the screen on and take you straight to the home screen...
That's how it works on the xz2 and xz3 (I own both), in fact I never use the power button at all unless I want to do a manual reboot...you can turn off the screen just with gestures from the home screen if you install a different launcher app (nova in my case) and I can do it as well from anywhere in any apps as I use Fluid Navigation Gestures (as I removed the nav bar) this way it's much easier to navigate on a bigger screen without having to go down to the bottom of the screen which can be awkward at times with one hand 😉 (and by the way, no root needed for this if you wondered)
But it's still retarded to have 2 buttons anyway, we agree with that and even more odd to be so close to each other...fps under the screen would be a definite better solution

Actually I think a side mounted FPS is superior to a screen one. It's more natural to unlock on the side than the screen IMO |

There have been reports that with Samsung using an in-screen FPS, that regular standard not expensive screen protectors will result in the FPS not working. This has something to do with the fact that any tiny air bubbles or pockets under the protector will be the cause of this issue and currently the old solution is either cut a hole where the FPS is, stupid, or apply some special protector that is on the market which costs like 60 bucks.
If these reports are true and regular cheapo screen protectors will not work then I'd rather have a side mounted one.
Another issue is, if the screen cracks/breaks near the FPS, does it still work?

The concept design for the original was based on Sony's design language at the time.

I agree, but that's where the tech is going to and we know that Sony is not willing to pay for the fps/power button combo license...also if the dedicated screen fps area is large enough that could be good too

From what I read, it works with plastic protectors but not glass ones (unless approved by them) and same goes if your fps button breaks...things break sometimes, doesn't matter where there are placed 😉 (I don't use cases or protectors, never been a fan of covering up the original intended design)

I don't understand this, all design elements from last year are gone if these leaks are true.
Yeah, thank God for that. All the dumb review sites praised the changes which resulted in plummeting sales, since all the review site writers own iphones. I even saw a recent article about how great it was that Sony got rid of the side FPS, something every Sony user thought was a bad move. This phone finally looks worthy to replace my XZs! |

All told I do like that the Xperias are now using the same naming scheme as the RX line of cameras. It's a nice enough foundation to build off of for future units.
I assume the purple unit we're seeing there is the flagship, so I wonder if there's a "Premium" variant yet to come. |
