A very good article, Sony do the same thing each year and expect a different result. I think stubbornness or arrogance also played a part in their decline.

Anyone want to spill the beans on the Compact? I thought what I saw was exactly the size of the X Performance. Does it have XZ2 size bezels or XZ1 size bezels? A buddy tells me that the S10E is pretty much going to retire the Compact if it isn't a high end device, the S10E would be bigger but if the Compact is midrange then I think Samsung marketing will bury it saying that the S10E is the new compact flagship.

The "compact" model you saw, did it have FPS on side?

The article has fair points but doesn't go deep. 6 month cycle and no marketing also contributed to their decline and the biggest problem was camera since Z2.

This video argues that they maybe stopped intentionally. https://youtu.be/k05Q1k4A5ls kind of makes sense. (at 7.45 he mentions Sony but the entire video shows the similarity)

There are a lot of talks about how hardware is getting less profitable while even Apple is trying to make their software services a new focus point. At CES Sony emphasized its position of being an entertainment company.

On the other hand, super high end still has potential but you need something unique on top of everything others are offering. So they weren't wrong about premium segment being the actual money maker. They just couldn't create or market their uniqueness.

I do not know how much money they earn per unit.
Gossips say Sony is the #1 among android.

I think they should at least try for 1 or 2 years increase the sales, then think again of high profits.
The "10+" is well priced not much different from XA2U.
Stronger cpu, 6Gb and 64Gb.
Hope it has at least 3500mAh again.

But the "10" is not well. Despite the new screen and probably stereo audio, there are many downgrades.
Of course the cam will perform below XA2, and the with bigger screen ( I think it is not much different from 16:9 5.5"), the stamina has to perform a giant miracle to make this device last as long as xa2.

Sony Weibo posted a pic with black rectangle , inside it is written 21:? ......

@BAD no matter the specs of this "compact" the s10e will sell much more. More than s10 and s10+. First reason is the price, near $200 less than s10. Second ppl have waited years for the flat screen. My sister has s8, she loves it but says dual edge is annoying. Any Samsung S will sell at least 12 million units.

I bet event will be like this :

They will bring someone to praise Sony, talk about how Sony keep working to bring the latest tech to costumers.
The Qualcomm guy shows up to say Qualcomm and Sony are bff, then he talks about 5G.
Mr. Furumi comes to the stage and says phone has 3 main selling points: screen, cam and 5G.
He talks about each stuff. Then he takes the flagship out of his pocket.
He will say when sales starts ( just summer, no exactly day).
One minute left he invites all to visit Sony's booth.

20 min later we can read on tech site about the other devices, because they are never mentioned during the event.

Is it 8am in Spain again? It is awful for who's in western lands ....
