Sensor shift stabilization is best for interchangeable lens cameras as it enables stabilization on any lens you put on it.
Traditional OIS moves lens elements, Cybershot cameras do use this, see the RX100 series, and pretty much any other tbh.
Actually reading through your comment I think you've got Electronic, sensor shift and optical all mixed up.
Electronic is great for video, mechanical (sensor or lens shift) for photos. Having both just means more options.

Remember the gold frame of the yellow Z1 Compact? I just did when I saw a canary yellow device from a certain manufacturer then I also remembered XR has the same combo too.
Gradient backs etc. I guess everybody is inspired by Sony except Sony |

Except Canon, all other now rely on IBIS now.
Of course not all models.
Sensor stabilization is pretty effective for both stills and videos. Except when Pixel Shift option is on.
OIS is only useful when shitter is between 1/4 - 1s. Some people can easily stay steady more than 1s.
I have some pics at 1/4s without any blur.
Just look at any 4K60 footage, if you walk the video is useless due to shaking, because there is no EIS.
I believe with stacked sensor would be possible to replicate HDR+ with much more frames and faster shutter to avoid motion blur from people, pets, cars etc.... For example frames of 1/16s .
Pixel 3 night sight has each frame of 1/3s , in the end it is like a 3s shutter.
A little experiment. Let's suppose I have two u12, one black and one red.
I put both on tripods.
The black I leave on auto, the red I set 3s + HDR.
Black will probably use 1/8 or 1/16s and iso between 200-400 if place is not that dark.
Of course the red unit will easily give much better results.
This is what happens when you compare 2 phones, one on auto and the other on a night mode. |

You are talking in the pro cam category. RX100 m6 has OSS. IBIS in a non-removable lens doesn't really make sense. It's called In Body because lenses are seperate.
Besides we're talking about phones here. If you can't have IBIS, then OIS is your next best option. And it's about how you can, or how the sw can use it. If it's not a stabilization issue why doesn't Xperia go under 1/16 1/32 unless it's on a tripod?
Just 1-2 stops of help would be tremendous as you can see in the Gsmarena compare tool. They are not Night Sight etc samples. They are all auto samples. |

Depends on the situation.
When auto shows you the NIGHT SCENE icon it can give you different settings.
Same for LOW LIGHT icon. It could be 1/32 or even 1s.
The 8MP SCN + night scene of Z phones can sometimes force 1s /iso50.
If subject is close and flash is ON, iso goes lower.
Landscapes night pics will probably be between iso 400-X , according to amount of light around.
XZ3 can never outperform XZ2P.
Even if you set iso400 x iso1600.
If dual cam is ON, of course.
Auto does not use it all the time.
If I had XZ2P, I would leave it set manual + iso400 + dual cam.
So everytime it goes to manual, setting is kept.

The 'SCN' function you've mentioned isn't available since XZP and therefore irrelevant. I would be happy if Sony would allow a little more than 1s exposure and perhaps a more continuous adjustment of the white balance. Last but not least, Raw photos.
I suspect we'll see class leading stabilization and it won't be OIS.
XZ3 vs XZ2P, I'll just add that the XZ2P has also got better lenses.
9 days to go...

Early next week I'd expect another teaser from Sony but as per usual don't expect them to give too much away.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

It's a sample used for promoting Sony's eye af. There's also a video from Bob Martin featuring this shot.
Eye af in Xperia? Is it even necessary for such small lenses and apertures? Speaking in smartphone terms. |

I saw something that looked almost like an X Performance, can anyone shed some light? I said that I had that phone before but the other person said that's impossible, what I saw has not been released. |

There have been designs floating around that kept being labelled "XZ4 Compact" that looked like the X/X Performance.
