but disappointing display brightness and delta E in standard mode testing
It's reasonable, Samsung Adaptive profile is terrible.
Yes professional mode should be the most accurate one |

Maximum brightness doesn't matter much.... How many of you always use your phone at maximum brightness while indoors??? Without auto boost S9+ has lower brightness than XZ3 which means when indoors the XZ3 can be brighter. And as for outdoors, XZ3 and S9+ have the same sunlight visibility score so they are equally bright in sun light. So in real life the XZ3 display is atleast as bright as the S9+...
As for color accuracy there are a lot of settings to just manually tune it to your liking. The default mode should have the most accurate colors white balance which sony doesn't does. But atleast we have options to tune it.

There should be some tool (hardware) to do the screen calibration for smartphone lol

At least sony took a good step in adopting oled.
And samsung has the best calibrated displays in the market
In most of the reviews sony phones are said to have a bluish tint and even after custom white
point adjustments they arent that great
Sunlight legibility has improved by a great margin and this is the best sony phone in that regard.
They should crank up the brightness to somewhat around 600-700 nits
Current brightness is bit low for a flagship |

" Next year's Compact will not be cut, but Japan seems to have a SDM6XX DOCOMO limited small screen."..
I have no idea if this means that only docomo version will be midrange.
Bonus: video says both screens are similar with xz3 more vibrating higher contrast while n9 closer to reality

Isn't tap to wake already in the XZ3? |

^no idea. don't have one and didn't read the spec sheet. maybe it is
that being said, who knows when sony will remove it in a future update like they did with the XZ. hope they keep these useful features throughout future updates and models instead of taking them away.

As I remember, you need to have always on display enabled to have tap to wake
