Well, not surprise. Because Acoustic Display and under display FPS "might" need it to work properly.

Also, there are Acoustic Display for mobile prototype out there, sadly made by "someone"

For technical reasons, it is a pity that Sony has cancelled a completely new interactive design that might have been stunning on this year's IFA

Well if it's a cancelled design why don't you elaborate on what it is?

Is there any evidence that Samsung would have to obtain permission from Sony to use this type of tech? LG showed off acoustic sound tech at CES last year on their TVs and there was no evidence presented that they had to license that tech from Sony. All they're doing is using an actuator to vibrate the screen, just another way of making sound. That'd kinda be like trying to patent a standard speaker design. Not to mention even if Sony does have a patent for this tech on TVs, that doesn't mean they have a patent for it on mobile.

Interesting, thanks spek. I am curious how well the tech works when touching the screen though.

Will Sony come up with their own acoustic surface phone?

Just thinking randomly here, the XZ2 already has a sizable actuator built into it. I wonder if it could either be repurposed or realigned for acoustic surface. Although I'm guessing an OLED display is needed for this to work.

What made someone buy XZ Premium? Screen and 960fps
Why are there ppl interested in XZ2 Premium? Screen and Motion Eye Dual

A1E provides better images than LG tvs, but this feature makes ppl interesting.
When I saw it first time I just thought : - That's so cool..

This could another thing to bring costumers, but they will let someone use it first...

I'm sorry but I'm still waiting for evidence that Sony is "allowing" Samsung to do anything.

Well, something inside the tv makes the screen vibrates.
I cant see how Sammy would copy that without breaking patents rights.

So unless they are paying to use it ...

That's the question, DOES Sony have a patent on this? Even if they do for TVs, would that apply to mobile? I see a lot of guesswork and no evidence. Like I said, LG showed the same tech at CES 2017, do we have any evidence that they had to go through Sony for that tech? I believe it was noted that Sharp had already used a tech like acoustic surface on a phone, why wouldn't we think they have a patent instead of Sony?

It says someone saw the screen of next premium.
That would be 4K OLED 18:9.
Screen uses 85% of the front.

Wrong, all Sharp does with that display "trick" is vibrating to user's ear and replacing earpiece speaker. Not actually replacing speaker and produce sound large enough to hear in distances...

Thanks for the clarification.

Well, between transparent OLED with CMOS behind the screen, foldable displays, acoustic surface and 5G mobiles look like they have a lot of great selling points coming up. Now we just need solid state batteries to hit the market!
