There are a few Exmor RS with 12 MP 1.4 and 12MP 1.55..
Still many use 16MP 1.0 , 12MP 1.22, 13MP 1.12 ....
Even with smaller pixels ( 1.12, 1.22 ) there are much more of them to do the job.
I mean the Sony phones..
About HTC, the 10 had same sensor of nexus 6p. 12MP 1.55 micron.
U11 came with 12 MP + 1.4 micron.
Why not just improve software and keep better hardware?
My last comment was about photographers saying pixel size does not matter.
Before P20 , other phones had ability to combine pixels to make them bigger.
All failed.

If you go here
Sony Xperia xz2 premium camera .
And where it says -Ultra-high sensitivity-
Where the image shows a dark night stars and in the image it shows human eye digital camera and pro camera to the left it highlights 12800 and 51200 but above it - it shows 102400 iso... Food for thought?
(I know p20pro uses and advertises 102400 iso
And I think someone said here it may be locked to 51200 by Sony ..)

I can't find any official information regarding RGBW on XZ2 Premium...
At least not here... https://blogs.sonymobile.com/[....]-movie-recording-display/#gref
and not here as well... https://www.sonymobile.com/gl[....]ia-xz2-premium/specifications/

I am pretty sure people are bashing RGBW panels, and consider them as having lower quality picture on TVs (LG is using them), why would they be superior for mobile phones? |

G7 will probably use WRGB LCD too.
Problem may not be the WRGB, just LG.
I have know idea who else uses LCD from JDI.
But it is hard to see screen issues on Xperia.
Now, on LG panels ..😱
Something else...
In many locations XZ2 is priced $800 at least.
If XZ2P was brought in february, probably price would be too high.
Maybe near $1100 in USA or Western Europe.
So I believe until june, XZ2 will be kinda cheaper like $700.
Then it is easier to price XZ2P close to $900.

And for the latest news, there is right now prototype (QRD) of SDM855 with dual modem, X24 and X50 NR, currently under development by Qualcomm and Sony. SoMC want to be the first to use dual modem solution in smartphone....

Do you think it's possible that another premium flagship (XZ3 Pro?) will have SDM855? |

Qualcomm presents new 8xx usually late November.
But chips started to be produced in January.

SDM855 now being made at low-rate production for testing and fine-tuning. And the next one is SDM1000 being under development....No SDM900 (that reserved for mid-range, like 700 series)

Very interesting.
Given they are already in test production and SONY is co-developing the chip, I think it's quite possible that Xperia with SDM855 shows up late this year or early next year. |

If XZ2P's panel is LG's RGBW PenTile, then display could be mediocre. but maybe they use WhiteMagic , which put additional white pixel on each rgb pixel, then display quality could be non-problem.

X50 can only handle 5G signal and not 4G. So they must use dual modem to achieve connections for both gens
X24M and X50NR in next Xperia, 2019,...
SoMC already announced to be one of the first partners of QC to use it, maybe the first one too....

I heard some news that XZ2P RGBW panel infact is LGD M+ panel....
Also to answer for some question in the previous page, yes XZ2 series hardware can processing 4K 60fps HDR, but I think that might be the selling point for future Xperia, also the problems of SteadyShot EIS with 4K60fps footage...

i hope they can find a way to 4k60 fps hdr video... |
