He says Sony dual cam has one sensor of 40MP, just like P20 Pro.
User ONITSUKA_8M posted that on weibo.
40MP ( 1/2.2" , 0.9 micron)
I think calculation is wrong. Difference between 1/2.3" and 1/2.2" is pretty tiny.
40MP with 1/2.3" would be close to 0.65 micron.
No way it can be 0.9.
Also CPU cant support 40MP.

Just a thought, what if Sony is offloading those tasks to the new fusion image processor chip instead of relying on the Snapdragon 845? |

I hope @ viv
P20 Pro has a 1/1.7" and you look at the phone and the camera looks same size of other two.
I have no idea how because it has 2x size of 1/2.5" .
A sensor of 1/2.2" with 40MP is kinda waste of time. It is not even 6% bigger than imx300.
They dropped from 23 to 19 to have bigger pixels, 1.2micron which they had on Z3.
At least I hope the best SteadyShot option works on 4K this time.
Still not available on xz2. |

Yeah, steadyshot not working on 4K is killing them on side by side comparisons with other phones because of how jittery it is. If they can get that working on 4K then it'll be one of the smoothest phones on the market. |

It works, but it is regular SS.
Not same of Full HD 30fps.

Sony hasn't even released or announced any phone with the 51200 ISO, only a prototype sensor module, unless you are referring to the 12800 ISO in the current sony xperias, but that is still far off the rumoured 102400 ISO that Huawei will use, which is overkill for a smartphone anyways,

1/2.3 is 29.73mm^2 and 1/1.7 is 43.30mm^2, so almost 1.5 times larger.
The fact Huawei can have a F1.8 lens with a 1/1.7 sensor AND OIS, shows that is can be done and Sony needs to step up their game. I don't feel 40MP is the way to go, looking at the huawei 40MP samples shows a shit ton of noise and blurry details in the photos.
A bigger sensor will always be better than more megapixels, can't beat physics.
Sony better impress with their new dual cam, because if it doesn't provide anything significantly better than the current crop of phones, then sales figures will not be stellar.

I was just checking P20P samples on gsmarena.
Same thing as S9+ , full of noise..
Honestly, I doubt flagships camera of 2018 have evolved as much as they say compared to 2014.
They way companies say, looks like evolution was kinda 100% at least.
You compare samples, you doubt it was more than 15%.
The OIS issue is the fact that except SLOW SHUTTER situation, there is not other benefits.
You can go to youtube and check how bad stabilization those phones have for video.
It is also harder to shot moving objects without blur.
Like what PREDECTIVE CAPTURE does.
OIS is made do deal with the natural body shaking, not huge movement.
I just wonder why Steady Shot is not used for photos too. |

Ya natural body shaking, when most people tend to take all their still photos. OIS can be turned off, it is a feature in a lot of cameras, in body and in lens. Pretty sure digital stabilization can also be turned on and off, so Sony could easily have the option to use one or the other, either automatically DIS for video and OIS for stills.
OIS is not only for slow shutter, one of the main benefits of OIS is you can increase shutter speed a bit while maintaining the same iso, this helps reduce noise and increases light, and I don't mean 1s SS, but 1/250 vs 1/125 or 1/50 vs 1/100.
As for digital stabilization, there is some image degradation since it is using algorithms to adjust the image but this is more noticeable in darker scenes.
Having used OIS and non OIS lenses for my sony camera, I can say it makes a big difference. |

Did you really see the image samples ?
What if he saw them in full resolution ?
Impossible, because your comment has nothing to do with reality !!!
See this sample, for a 40 megapixel image and ISO 3200 the result is great, especially for an image sensor of 1/1.7":

The selfie camera, was also very good:

In summary, congratulations to Huawei for having arrived where only Nokia has achieved in the whole history of mobile phones !!! |

Huawei is king of smartphone cameras and that is clear now. And knowing Sony, they wont come close to this with their dual camera setup. Companies even started using triple sensors and Sony havent even implemented dual setup yet. Lol...
Maybe we should not blame Sony because Huawei has a lot money for R&D as it is very strong company, maybe even stronger then Samsung.

Have you seen the sample photos presented by DXOMark for Huawei P20 pro?
There seems to be a disconnect.
The sample photos presented side by side with Google Pixel 2 and the Galaxy S9+ are NOT GOOD. The Pixel 2 and S9 photos ARE WAY BETTER.
(I know this is not XZ2 related but I'm posting this here in response to the post above) |

Many coments on DxO and DPR mocking the samples of P20 Pro.
All photos of ppl sem to have soft skin on.
You cant tell if someone has good of bad skn.
Many good lighting shots have way more noise than usual.

s9+ looks better then pro for low light, @dxomark pro's shots better then pixel and iphone but it's not that conviced me enough.
ricciolo stated only telephoto sensor has ois.
i still believe sony's new dual camera will outclass other phones for low light. |
