Summary
Pros -
Great build quality
Unique design. Quote -"its "boring" design, its utilitarianism, happens to be one, too: phones are meant to be used, not admired."
Fingerprint scanner position and it's superfast performance
Camera button
Android 8.0
Very good battery life
Sony's best camera YET
Cons -
Overall Camera can't compete with the class leader especially low light performance is bad
Bazels problem ( Reviewer seems to agree that bazel on XZ1 is ugly but he doesn't seem to bother to much)
Overall it's a solid choice for people living in Canada.

It looks like stock camera distorsion problem. For me Snap Camera get normal geometry. For XZ1c...

Deal alert - XZ1 is now only 613.87 . This is maybe a record for Sony phone. Price is already almost 100 dollar cheaper than original price. I wonder why they are so quick to drop the price.

Oh, I have a hypothesis - Because it's not selling well. I'm pretty sure I said it here that I wouldn't be surprised to see XZ1 turn out to be a flop device for Sony and from the looks of it my suspicion is coming true. And Sony thought they will be able to sale XZ1 well.
They are so out of touch of their customer and reality that it's not even funny anymore. Maybe it's time to move their mobile division to somenear wester part of the world like the playstation division instead of japan.

I would rather say they don't know how to create a hype.
Their devices are not lacking anything, it's just a spotlight which is pointed
at those bezelless news OR cheap alternatives.
iPhone 8 sells like cake even if it's sooo outdated...

It's really hard for marketing department to create hype when their phone is not best at anything.
2017's best- according to the most tech reviewers ( I tend to agree with these opinions )
Design: Samsung's 2017's flagships and Essential phones. It's really hard for reviewers and consumer to praise a design that's been around for 5 years.
Screen: Samsung's 2017's flagships
Performance: Pixel 2's/iPhone 8/x
Battery: Most likely mate 10
Camera: Pixel 2's
Software: Pixel 2's
XZ1 has unique but stale design, Good display, Very fast performance, good battery life, Just OK camera, very good software but It's not best at anything. iPhone can get way with anything thanks to their loyal fanboys and their proprietary iOS but that's not the case for android phone maker . Yes, XZ1 has some really unique and useful features over their competitions but obivously it's not enough. But I bet XZ1 would've been a fan favorite among xperia lover if it had better STB ratio( at least 75%) and great camera (atleast on par with U11).
In the android world where pretty much every phone use the same SoC and other hardwares Basic things like Design, Battery life, Camera performance and overall software experience is the real king maker. I'm afraid Sony mobile is lagging at all of them but software experience. |

If anything to add... It lack of High quality DAC, Headphone amp. It's very important for audio quality.

Its cheaper now because it doesnt come with a 200 euros phone any more.
Audio is good, DSEE is nor DAC but still good. |

So got my phone.
450 Euro, I was lucky to sell my over a year old XZ for 350.
Somebody was selling his XZ1 from TMobile contract, which is my carrier as well...
Anyway quick findings:
- Now in the Camera ISO and Shutter speed is independent. Which is nice
- They removed Pictures widget. What a shame
- The phone looks great (black), and feels great. Battery seems great as well.
- Current Xperia Transfer is a f.... joke. I got really annoyed. I mean I wanted to do in in the Cloud first, but Xperia Transfer app was PREPARING the files to send for like 50 minutes so I ditched this method. I just wanted sms and call log.
I've chosen Xperia Companion via Backup method... I took me like 6 backup and restore attempts to eventually get all the sms up to two weeks ago. I just couldn't get the latest ones. Crazy. Maybe it's a Android 7.1.1 - 8.0 compatibility issue?
- I have no bloody idea how to make Picture in Picture work
- So far the phone seems amazing. It's very snappy.
