It is hard to believe 1s HD@960 is harder task than 2h of 4K@30...

The way Sony can do 960fps is different than others.. other phones depend on the sensor, SoC to manage the speed, While some Sony sensors can support 480fps, the SoC is a limit also, for example Snapdragons can't do 480fps that's why most snapdragon phones has 720p@240fps max.

Sony 960fps sensor has a built in DRAM behind the sensor it self in a stacked design along with the Image Signal Processor (Sensor-DRAM-ISP), the DRAM is only 1Gb, meaning it's only 120MB... at 720p, each frame is about 922KB meaning the DRAM is capable only of storing 130 frames which is only 0.13 seconds and it will be full, usually the sensor will send the data to the SoC to encode it, but 720p@960fps is too fast for the SoC to do and even for the camera-SoC data bus to handle (unless the bus was at least 3 lanes wide).. my guess is the sensor will start to fill the DRAM and in the same time send the data to the SoC ( saving to the system RAM ).. after it all fills, the camera software will get the data and encode it.

The SoC is not able to handle encoding at that speed. Sony had to figure it out.. Qualcomm has been lazy adding support for faster than 240fps. while other makers do 480fps like Apple and MediaTek.

I just saw too this XZ1 geekbench score.
Antutu says it is android 8.0, geekbench says it is 7.1

I read somewhere a while ago that 40% of the phones sold that cost at least 400 USD in Taiwan were Sony.
In Taiwan Sony seems stronger than Asus and Htc.
There is a guy, I guess he is an actor, always part of advertisement.

So if IFA will have three flagships: XZ2, Compact & Premium...

Which Flagship the MWC event will have ? Ultra ?

Will any of these rumored devices will have a ratified design?

Will Sony bring out a new feature set beyond just the camera, screen resolution?
we've already lost Sony PS4 play compatibility.

Thanks.

I remember a few days ago someone asked in this forum about Android 8.0 update.

Here is what I heard as Android O update plan in Japanese market (docomo).

- Xperia XZ Premium
- Xperia XZs
- Xperia XZ
- Xperia X Compact
- Xperia X Performance

Xperia Z5, Z5C, Z5 Premium and before will not be updated to 8.0.

Not sure for global market, but I think it's basically the same, and update is likely to start in Dec.

Also, the first device to have 8.0 will be the next flagship announced at IFA.

It was me.. About 8.0 Just read it too on sumahoinfo...
It is weird because X, XA1 and XA1 Ultra are not listed either.
Sony said flagships would be 2 years of update.
Z5 is not 2 yet..

one more thing to add.

Unless there is significant delay in production etc, new xperia(s) at IFA will be the first non-google device to have Android O, and I believe it's something to do with the fact that Sony is deeply involved with development of this OS version.

^ Google actually came to Sony to help them sort out a lot of audio issues in Android 8 so I wonder if in return Sony got the source code way ahead of other brands.

If Nexus 6p gets 8.0 , Z4 and Z5 should get too.
Both are better and deserve it.
Z5 has same age of 6p.

I thought sony said no more flagship like x or xz and they are only going to stick to absolute flagship like the premium. I know sony said lots of thing before and never turn out what they said but I hope they stick to all premium flagship only. All the xz and x are all awkwardly speced and priced.
