I don´t have very high demands on the next Compact. Except that it has to be IP6* without flaps and maintain the same size as the older Compacts. Other than that doesn´t really matter, i would probably buy it anyway.
Of course it would be nice if they managed to increase the screensize a little (while maintaining the same footprint).

If i can dream wildly i would go for a 5" 18:9 (or 21:9) compact, thus shaving av mm of the sides and making it narrower for a more comfortable hold. Had my Xperia Ray out for a feel the other day, still one of the best phones i´ve owned. To bad it was a bit gimped spec wise.

Maybe, just maybe, if Sony can shrink the XZ1 about 10 mm in height i could consider stepping up. Otherwise im always for a compact phone. I could keep my current Z3 compact but the flap covering the usb is getting worn after three years. I had my phone in for a warranty display change last fall and asked if the could change the flap while it was there. They could, but they had only white flaps to put on my orange Z3. Thank you, but no. My phone has been on dry land ever since.

Xenon flash requires a capacitor about the size of pinky finger inside the phone. To be honest I find it useless anyway.rather have new tech like curved sensor or simple ois. future of cameras is quantum film anyway. Sony had a prototype and inolux or something wanted to rent sony fabs to manufacture them

Hope the next premium line up offers 1080p 120hz in addition to 4k 60hz. Technically any 4k 30hz screen should be able to do 1080p120hz. Would love to have a 21:9 near zero bezel phone. Thats like my dream. Hope the next sensor can capture hdr10+ footages and play them on the hdr screen too.

Hmmm, I'm a bit more conservative. I would prefer the 16:9 display ratio in combination with a reduction in both top and bottom bezel. To be honest, so far Sony seemed pretty conservative as well, whether it be display resolution or display size (apart from the Premium and Ultra, which are both more niche and less frequent, but hopefully that is and will be changing).

Nope, panels has there limitations, some panels are set to 60Hz while when overclocked can hit something like 75Hz.. these are hardware limitation of the panel it self, it's not a processing power we're talking about here, the panel it self can't go faster...

And when we're talking about processing power, a processor that can handle 1080@120Hz can in theory handle 4K@30Hz, but not the opposite as 1080@120Hz will require lower latency and higher IO for the memory & cache subsystem.

Crystal LED seems to be too power hungry and produce too much heat for mobile, if the full size commercial units are anything to go by. Resolution is also a problem because in a CLEDIS display each pixel is nice and tiny, but it's surrounded by a relatively massive black region. This doesn't matter much on a huge CLEDIS display, but it wouldn't work on a tiny mobile display.

I think the hope would be that CLED would one day make it to consumer TVs, but who knows how long we'll have to wait for that. Even before then I'd imagine we would see CLED used in a professional monitor for movie studios to use.

Plus with the potential for actual quantum dot TVs somewhere in the distant future (not Samsungs QLED approach, which Sony was doing years ago), who knows which tech would be superior.

I do actually. I bought one when I got my phone. But i have, until just now, used a bumper without a opening for the magnetic charger so it would have been to much of a hassle evertime to cringe it of.
Found the cable and it works like a charm.

Some update and correction (in good way) about Xperia XZ1 and XZ1C.

I previously mentioned XZ1 screen size will be larger, around 5.4inch.
Seems this info was "slightly" wrong. I just heard it's gonna be about the same size as XZP, which means 5.5inch

For XZ1 Compact, its screen size gets larger to, reportedly, around 4.8inch thanks to narrower bezel.
