I just heard that Xperia XZ1 and the compact version (i assume XZ1 Compact) will be released in mid September, and that this year release will be first in Japanese carrier (not sure which one though).
Note: The person who told me this info said it's from reliable source, but it's still just hearsay. So not sure how trust-able this info is. |

I read it about one hour ago on sumahoinfo.
The carrier is Docomo.
At the moment XZ P is the better seller at Docomo.
It has overtaken iphone 6, this one was #1 for years..
Phones might also arrive in UK later september or early october..
Earlier compared to XZ / Xc. |

What I'd like too see in 2018:
- 5.5" 4K STE Oled
- Screen to body = 78%
- FPS under screen
- 4000 mAh
- Qualcomm 845 or a in-house cpu as powerful as 845
- 845's Adreno or best PowerVR
- 4gb is enough
- 64 gb storage
- Dual sim not hybrid
- Acoustic surface
- Gorilla Glass 6
- Plastic frame + metal buttons
- Rear cam : 1/2" 19MP f1.6 2GB dram xenon flash
- Front cam : rear sensor of Pixel, f1.8 + flash led
- 3D facial recognition ( Sony was going to show it in Shangai this year)
- NFC wireless charging
I'd say I'd pay 1100 dollars for this.
But here since Z5 all flagships cost more than this already.
So no problem....
i wonder if 1/2" is possible.....it have been near 4years since the first 1/2.3" CMOS on mobile release(Xperia Z1), and still struggling on just reducing pixel to increase the pitch size
dont forget Sony have curved CMOS, if this is happening, i am sure, it is way bigger than 1/2.3"(or even 1/2")
and xenon flash....just 4 LED will do.....
for the front camera, i think IMX234(front camera on XA1 Ultra) is powerful enough
For me, i would like to see in 2018:
- 21:9 4K STE OLED(as the reason of the existence of Acoustic Surface)
- Acoustic surface
- FPS everywhere on screen
- 4000 mAh(or 3230mAh with new type of battery)
- Qualcomm 845
- 845's Adreno or best PowerVR
- 6GB for even better multi-tasking
- 128GB UFS
- Dual sim(as we have 128GB already...hybrid will do)
- Gorilla Glass 6
- Titanium frame(stronger and wont block the signal)
- Rear cam : Curved CMOS with F1.4
- Front cam : IMX234 or IMX378 with OIS +LED
- 3D facial recognition
- NFC wireless charging |

I'm not a fan of wireless charging so I wouldn't be bothered if Sony never included in any future devices. I just want the S-Master digital amp plus 960fps @ 1080p or higher and if the next gen CPU is capable of it 4K @ 60fps.
Sony got a patent about using NFC circuit as wireless charging recently
S-Master is really needed......
IMX400 can do 960fps@1080P already, just not enough DRAM for short moment of 960fps |

I've always complain Sony Mobile for not implement Headphone amp on Xperia for a few year. Now I'm giving up on that.
Damn you Kaz...

Everything is great except for 4GB RAM. Sony's '18 flagship should NOT have the same RAM amount as Galaxy 6 edge+ from '2015. That would be the same amount of RAM as a 3 year old flagship.

I am 99% certain that we will have 4K@60 fps video recording since current generation Exynos can already do that (though it was purposefully gimped because S835 can't catch up so that the Galaxy market that has S835 variant doesn't feel cheated).

Although we won't get Xenon, no LED can come close to the quality provided by Xenon. It would be a perfect phone if it would feature Xenon but that is highly unlikely.

Spoke to someone about non-Xperia products so things like the projector and earpiece thing. Those things are not really available everywhere but are important avenues that Sony will continue to invest in and develop. He says that the projector was really well received and that it will be improved, there was interest from the education sector so that you can use it to teach; having a portable kind of interactive whiteboard to teach in a third world country as an example.
Fitness bands will always be on the agenda, this is a huge market so at the very least there will be future body trackers. The FEZ watch used some really cool technology and if it becomes more cost effective, it will eventually be implemented into fitness bands but take into consideration that fitness bands are dirt cheap these days. Following on from this, I asked about smartwatches and the response was that all eyes are on Google and what they will present later this year. Last year there were a lot of nice and traditional looking watches but this year everything is super-sized, the top end watches (Samsung and LG) are thick and wide. A lot of people are looking towards older watches like the first Huawei and Moto 360 2nd gen because they look good and are discreet which is something that they are taking note of.
A lot of fashion designers are releasing smartwatches and they acknowledge that. I personally think that we may perhaps get another smartwatch because the market is growing and that we have thin, flexible, curved, round screens so the freedom is there. Also, the software is coming along nicely and Goggle are making it their mission to massively dent Apple watch sales. |

Sony should bring smart band back..
About 4gb ram, I do not think 6 will come before 2019.
3 years using 3gb..
I do not want 100% screen nor dual cam. It is ugly.
@ambivalent ...
Exynos of S8 can 4K@120 but I believe the cam sensor is not strong enough to do it.
XZs and XZ are almost the same but imx400 can do things imx300 can't.
And even all difference between 820 and 835, XZs can do the same of XZP.

For XZ1 Premium I am expecting for Sony to offer a cam sensor that would indeed support 4K@60 fps like they did with XZ Premium and 720p@960 fps. |

well, according to Sony, IMX400 is actually possible for 4K60fps, meaning that only CPU, or ISP limited on processing 4K60fps recording

So is S835 to blame after all? |

49 days until Sony's press ......
I can't wait anymore.. Too curious!!!
Depends on how XZ1 and next Premium look, XZ1 may be my next phone.
I do not mind to wait the end of 2018 to get it cheaper, here phones are too expensive.
XZ Premium is something like 1121 american dollars on Sony's website..
Other stores have it 5% cheaper, only Single Sim version...
If Premium comes 100% screen and 21:9, I'll get XZ1.
About 77% STB is best for me...
Hope XZ1 comes in GG6 and dark blue like Honor 9 ...
But it is probably metal and has the blue of XZ and gray of XZs.

I don't really think that's the main issue. Nokia has offered Xenon flash for its flagship not that long ago (1020 for instance) and could provide it in some of the upcoming models since they renewed their partnership with Carl Zeiss which implies a strong focus on camera segment. It's not that the phones with Xenon flash are notorious for quick battery drain. As with 4K videos (that also suck up lot's of power) it's up to the user to determine how much of those power intense features should he use.
