All I ask is... Please no 18:9 screen.
Even 21:9 is better...

Just tell me two things.
1. If the top and bottom bazels are going to shrink?
2. If there will be a new sensor?

I wish I knew. One thing I do know is that the XZ Premium has sold much better than anticipated and they expect the the XZ1 range to very well especially the Compact.

This has allowed Sony to have slightly deeper pockets in terms of R&D for the mobile range and this is just hush whispers at the moment but Google have been very impressed with Sony's help with Oreo and are in very early stages of a new Pixel from Sony in late 2019.

New sensor that fast? Doubtful but here is the run down so far.

I am only counting the Z line or premium line. So the old 20MP sensor was used 4 times, from Z1-Z3+, the 23 MP was used 3 times, starting from the Z5, ending with the XZ. The new 19MP showed up earlier this year in February with the XZs and XZ premium and again will be used this time around for the XZ1 line.

So perhaps one more device in early 2018 with the 19MP sensor, possibly the premium sporting the new updated design that is being mentioned on here.

Although if Sony decides to release the next device, be it a premium or not, with dual cam setup, then perhaps a new sensor will be used, but the 835 can support 2 16MP cams or 1 32MP cam, so perhaps Sony could use a 19MP cam and 8MP for second sensor? Of course the new device could use the upcoming SD845.

Now the SD845 will be out by Q1 2018 but if Samsung has yet again bought out the first run like with the SD835, this would delay any models like with the XZ premium, so we'd be looking at another late spring/early summer 2018 release for any device with SD845.

For now there is no info about what cam support the SD845 will have so perhaps it might be able to support 2 19MP sensors for a dual cam support.

As for the pixel news, late 2019 is long ways away so that might still not materialize, would be great for a late 2018 Sony pixel phone.

Many websites are excited with the 3D Creator.
One guy from THE VERGE looked like a child on Xmas.

I agree. Imx400 will probably be around next semester.
Then new one at IFA. I also hope Premium comes only in September.

If I could choose, I'd ask for a 1/2" 20MP sensor. 4x optical zoom.
Dont care if phone brought 1cm thick.

Ascariss, lets not forget that Sony knows how to " cheat".
S650 can support up to 20MP single cam. X has 25MP sensor...

I left a link earlier, someone compares samples of XZP, XZ1 and Note 8.
XZ1 and XZP share good and bad stuff.....

Not sure Sony is cheating that much, the 650 can support up to 21MP and yes the sensor is up to 25MP, 5984 x 4140 (24,773,760 pixels), but the X camera does not capture all of this at once, since it could capture 2 different modes, 4:3 and 16:9.

4:3 is 5522 x 4140 = 22,861,080 or 22.8MP.
16:9 is 5984 x 3366 = 20,142,144 or 20.1MP, which is below the 21MP support of the SD650.

http://www.gsmarena.com/sonys[....]p_camera_sensor-blog-13806.php

So while the 16:9 stays within the limit of the 650, the 4:3 does not and is a little bit outside, I guess the extra 1.8 million pixels is not a big deal or maybe Sony added their own ISP, doubtful though.

a 1/2 inch sensor is not that much larger than a 1/2.3 sensor, the area is only 3% larger.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki[....]le_of_sensor_formats_and_sizes

perhaps a 1/1.8" like the nokia N8, around 28% larger than 1/2.3, even better would be a 2/3" sensor like the lumia 1020 had, almost 95% larger. Doubt Sony will use a larger sensor but they could, they have the tech and know how and it could help them differentiate from other companies.

They can do much better than now. Unfortunately they just don't do it.

^ Like I said in my previous post Sony now have deeper pockets for R&D so changes will happen on a more regular basis than over the past few years or so.

I'm happy that next year Sony will come with a new design (hopefully....). Though, I really wish they could reduce the bezels, specifically the side bezels. Personally am okay with the top and bottom as long as stereo speakers stays, but will not mind if they are willing to trim some of that off.

One thing that really confuses me, the XA1 Ultra and Plus! It clearly shows their engineering feat and ability to reduce those side bezels. My question is, how come their flagship did not get said treatment? Further more, how does the Ultra gets a much better front facing camera too? Anyone know if their new design, especially the flagship, will incorporate the reduced bezels and superior front facing camera(supposedly) like the XA1 Ultra and Plus?

XA1 Ultra and Plus are not waterproof which is why they look as they do however, they did add the side fingerprint scanner on the XA1 Plus and keep the side bezels thin.

The XAU and XA1U have same front cam. It is imx234.
This sensor has same specs of imx240 used for Samsung flagships of 2015.
This sensor is bigger than imx214 used as selfies for M5 and X flagships.

Ultra has higher value of screen/body due edge to edge and bezels are not equal.
Just like C, C3, C4 and C5 the top lower bezel is shorter.

XA1+ has same front cam as XA1 and XZ1c, the 8MP 1/4".
Flagships have selfie of 1/3.06".
Ultra has the 1/2.6"

Sony can move rear cam, phone will probably be thicker ( unless it has oled).
But front cam is a challenge.

I'm not sure waterproofing can be a viable argument anymore when phones like the V30, S8(and +), and Note8 is waterproof with minimum bezels. Heck, if the new iPhone and Pixel is going to be what the leaked describes it to be, those can be added onto the list too. Hence, I'm just confused at why Sony couldn't have made the XA1 Ultra/Plus as the flagship design, of course with all the other high end specifications.

As you point out, the XA1 Ultra has the largest sensor out of the batch. On top of that, it also has OIS. Guess this'll be another reason for me to be okay with a larger top and bottom bezel. Heck, I actually don't mind them being that big due to it being easier to hold when using the phone in portrait mode. This also baffle me to why flagship camera's don't get OIS, front and back?

Just watched a video XZ1 x V30.
Video recording skills of both.
Some tech sites say V30 is best for vlogs, but XZ1 is way ahead.
Not only stabilization but sound recorded is much cleaner.
Night scene video is also better. V30 is noisier, looks like he zoomed in.

I just do not understand why any flagship has better stabilization on FHD than 4K.

I also got some tip from someone that Japanese version (presumably NTT version) both XZ1 and XZ1C will be released in the last week of Sep.
