haha
i don't know but that appears to be a silly idea to me.

if you just want to keep the display visible, why not just get a case without a cover? you are only degrading the responsiveness of the display that way.

and look at those holes for the speakers. that cover can't protect the device from dust accumulation and liquid splashes. what's happening to sony's design engineers?

why didn't they just create a cover that slides to the sides, instead of flipping open and close.

A big letdown!
It looked so promising but now I am mourning again

Soon welcome to my collection P9 unless Xperia X Premium is real.

Because the initial thought was too good and now when the photos are there to behold, it is all Sony typical camera quality again.

I thought it looks pretty good there, better than mate 8 for sure. Most other manufacturers rely on image scaling to reduce the noise significantly but that smudged a lot of things. While Sony take the exact opposite direction from all of them, with the quality as it is atm I think thats probably the best they can be. Still need to fix the jpeg compression algorithm though.

The differences are basically minor!
And I wouldn't say iPhone looks better AT ALL.
Actually Sony has more detail...
I see some people get obsessed.
BTW there are also reviews showing some software and lowlight issues
on G5, G7. C'mon. All of the smartphone cameras have some issues just because the
hardware is so limited.
I mean you can choose each one and go right or wrong!

The software is still not final so some more fine tuning will occur no doubt but I am not expecting any miracles from Sony here in the mobile front.

There are still some issues with the photos. In the photo of the geisha, the area on the left, the gravel, is slightly over exposed. The iphone with its F2.2 lens uses iso 25 and a shutter speed of 1/335s while the X with its F2.0 lens has a higher iso value, 40 and a slightly longer exposure of 1/250s, this might be the reason why the gravel is overexposed. Sure the overall photos is brighter in the Sony but this may not always be the best idea for a photo.

If you look at the wooden shoe the geisha is wearing and compare the X and iphone, clearly the X loses out. The iphone has more details and you can even see the different layers of the wood of the shoe, where as on the X it appears as one giant block of messy noise.

Next the nails on the front of the box with umbrella. The iphone shows them quite clearly and as distinct nails, on the X, more of a messy smudge, not enough resolved detail here.

Next look at the waist area of the geisha, in the iphone the inside of the bow has pretty good details and range, the hand, you can see the individual fingers or at least details that there are fingers there! On the X, the bow while not bad, ha less dynamic range, and the hand, if it has fingers, I can't see them, especially zoomed in even.

Overall this photo still has way too much noise in this state and it does need to be reduced otherwise the details will never be as good as on the iphone. The sad thing is, the front/selfie cam photo in the review shows the potential what sony could achieve but somehow they f**k it up all the time.

The front shot has very low noise vs the rear cam, more details are therefore retained which makes the overall photo look much better. Sure they are different photos, one is a landscape, the other faces but looking at the background of the selfie shot, well noise is much better controlled here.

Some of the other samples have the noise controlled much better than in the Geisha shot, so clearly the software is capable of producing good clean photos but it needs to do it in all scenarios and not just some.

The X might be a step in the right direction so once production phones come out with final software a final judgement can be made.

The prices are updated now at Amazon.
I have already placed my pre-order on the Xperia X Performance here in Sweden. It's about £50 price difference.
